I have been with Party Pop for a year now. I was thinking about Gigmasters. There are not any magicians close to my area using Gigmasters (except Flint). But some do come up in the Detroit area even though they are out of state.
The customers do not have to pay the 5% fee additional fee if the magician chooses to paid it instead. The gift package logos are the magicians willing to pay the 5% for the customers. If the magician do not pay the 5%, Gigmasters will keep the references off your banner. |

It looks like none of them have an office/residence in Michigan any more. I should jump in. http://www.gigmasters.com/Magician/Magician_Detroit_MI.asp

If one is already on google, would gigmasters pay off as well? Where I live you type in magician, mentalist or illusionist and I am there. SOmetimes I am on top.
Also is the basic gigmasters package for 3 months just as good as the other higher price packages? Incidently, I do not see any magicians etc from my town on the Gig, only adjoining cities. Thanks Candin

Does anyone find certain categories work better then others for theleads? I am doing pretty well and not complaining at all as I have more then paid off my year's cost. I just keep getting a LOT of requests for costume character work or for shows for VERY young children instead of fairly decent leads for ages 4 and up. any thoughts on categories that are working better for folks?

I do not think that catagory is your problem. I think that it is your profile that gives people that impression. I have not read your profile, but I am very familiar with how you, and Kelly describe your services. Just read the profiles of the most successful members for ideas on how to tweak your profile (I did not use the word copy). It is my opinion that your profile is your mose valuable tool.

Oh I agree that it may play a part in things for sure. we can certainly lrearn from those who are doing very well and take lessons from that. I will go and look over the profile in more detail this week but feel it is pretty good to describe exactly who we are and who we are not and give people good information in regards to what we provide. I will certainly review it though.
My main reason for postings is that Gigmasters allows you to choose categories (5 I think for my level of payment) that you will get leads for. I chose my 5 but wonder if I chose the right or best ones. I do get gigs and plenty of leads and it has paid off for me very well so far. I just am wondering if their are certain categories that will generate better leads then what I have chosen. I also know that as we move up on the gigmasters page rankings, we will also start to get and generate more interest from those directly seeking us and our services. We have done very well since starting and have climbed up to almost the first one on the seocnd page last I checked. this is not bad from when we signed up a few months ago. I am very happy with my progress though gigmasters so far but am always wanting and searching for more and evaluating things here. The reason we get a lot of younger and costume character gigs is that it is one of the categories we chose when we signed up. I felt at the time that costume characters was a category where by I could get some leads and change them from a costume character gig to a magic show very easily. I have done that many times. I just seem to be getting a lot of them for ages 3 and under and my show simply is not geared for that age level. With that said, I wonder if switching away from that category to a different one, might generate better leads coming our way. Thanks for the information anyone can provide as well as ideas and thoughts. Kyle

What other catagory you are qualified for? I belong to three catagories at no additional cost, and I make bids on all three from time to time.

Hi Al,
I think the ones throwing me off is that I was under Puppet Shows and costume characters. I just changed those now to ones I feel I could possibly convert to a magic show if the lead comes through. I get my main category (magician) as well as 5 others. I am also under Motivational speaker, comedian and Mentalist. I also know that I have a couple gigmasters gigs I will be doing in the next month and if those go well with good reviews, that will move us up as well. I think now we are ranked about 11-13 under magicians in Philadlephia on Gigmasters. That takes us to page 2. if we can get to page 1, I am sure that will help also. I also changed my main image on the profile page to something that I feel shows more diversity of what we do. See if that helps also. I am going to make thse changes and track results for the next 2 weeks. I can always tweek as I go along. Thanks for the help. =) Kyle

What happened to taking care of the clients' needs instead of trying to grab the extra dollar? There are a lot of acts under the Ventriloquist heading that simply don't belong there. When I get a lead that is directed to that category, I simply wipe the "non-competition" aside with a statement about the fact. A client can look at the profile pages and decide which act really has the skill set for the show. There is nothing wrong Kyle, with being listed as a Motivational speaker, comedian and Mentalist IF you actually do a full show in that style. But if you don't do a puppet show or costumed animals or a show that actually fits in another category - why list there? If you do convert the buyer it is usually the lower end budget who has no real idea what they want. Plus, if they hire you and decide they really did want the costume character - it may affect your feedback. Why chance it? Do what you do well - and clients will seek you out. |

Thanks Tom,
I totally understand. I actually do offer costumed character shows and puppet style shows but they certainly are not are our main niche markets. In many cases a costume character prospect will actually want or would be better suited for a magic show pending upon age. This is really what I was referring to mainly. I do totally see your point though. I need to evaluate my gigmasters profile and then just track it better. Thanks for the great advice. Kyle

Just how does that public speaker thing work? Who picks the subject that you will speak on? Are these people just looking for someone to come to their event and talk about something interesting? Or are they looking for an expert on a certain topic? I would love to be a public speaker but to go to an event held by people who want to learn more about what they are already quite knowledgeable in is not for just any old public speaker.
This question is not for Kyle it is for any old expert who gives speaches to select groups. Some how I can't see very much demand for public speakers, unless I am way off base.

Actually I have found so far to be quite a demand for them in certain coporate work. A lot of companies so far that I have delt with hire for different reasons as a motivational tool or a way in which to teach employees certain key things they want them to know about.
Now I am no expert by any means but the few I have done, have been simply great.I started doing it because I realized that I had a way in which to combine my magic with my personal story about being deaf and losing my hearing. The combination has allowed me to be able to tell very motivational and powerful stories and important lessons about never giving up, overcoming challenges, adapting to situations and believing in your own self worth. These are some of the things I talk about and share through the stories I tell and the magic that goesalong with it. I have not had the chance to do this very often but I hope I get more chances this year. It really is my way of giving back and also trying to educate others on important life lessons I had to learn simply to be able to do what I do every day. Kyle

You never know where the bookings will come from. I just had a phone call from a woman that found my name and photo at gigmaster, so she looked up my phone number, and made a deal with me over the phone, she did not want to go through the gigmaster red tape.

I just made some changes to my profile and to some settings 2 weeks ago and I have sene a drastic improvement in the quality of leads I am now getting. In fact, within 3 hours of changing the stuff, I already booked another paid gig masters magic related show. I am going to continue to track it and see how it is doing for us over the next month and tweek some more as needed. so far it seems to be working.
