I solute the entertainers who works this market. You get lots of ohhh we only pay xxx and you get the rest on tips or we want you there for four shows for $600... BLAHHHH not for me!

In your teens? Well, that explains a lot. You are obviously an expert at the market. Put my 25 pro years on the back burner - I bow to your superior knowledge.

Tacrowl, I started to watch your video on your site but the hand up the ducks butt is a bit over worked ehehhee Smile

You refer to one gag early in a 5 minute video. Sorry I outlasted your attention span. Its all about the audience being entertained. Of course, you know that - you've been doing this professionally for so long.

BTW - The water tank was a nice prop. I assume you read the blog of the show's host?

My apologies to the other readers of this thread. I will not take this any further. Go ahead Curtis, you can have the last shot - but keep in mind you still had no right to insult Keith or insinuate that he was beneath your level of corporate performance. He was simply pointing out an inconsistency - you cleared it up and could have left it at that.

Yes I did fairs and fest when I started out when I was 15ish and stopped about 20- 21... That is how I made my living for many years... I will do fest or fairs today when I do a major stunt but not a stage performance.

Here are some links to my youtube videos....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TahycrONQUA

and
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cgrm3aW0uHs

P.S. For the USA network we could not do the trick for real because the way they wanted to shoot the video and the producer new this but the host did not.... There is way more to this story which I will not explain in a public forum....

Shooting television is totally different than real life.... For me it has been a huge adaption process from performing on the stage to perform for tv....

About your duck - I do understand the entertainment value,,, but I just did not want to watch the duck routine.... I did hear people laughing... Smile but I like the dancing banana better : Smile

Ok I was going to stay out of this about the gigmasters idiocy as the site bites and it lumps everyone into the same catagory. The ONLY way to sell on the site is by price.

That being said Curtis why do you show people methods? You have now crossed the line into exposure and that should make you hang your head in shame, not brag and post the darned links!

You EXPOSE METHODS!

My favorite line has to be "these are real cuffs, just like the pros use" as if your not a pro LOL.

But really Curtis, what would posess a "magician" to show his secrets? I wonder if all the escape guys are as appauled at you as everyone is about exposure.

How is it you think anyone will take escapes seriously? I am quite disapointed really.

Slip out of cuffs ohhh is that a top secret that magician keep or is that something we like to portray to our audience that we are able to slip out of these...????

Besides this has been discussed in this form...

Congrats to Curtis being on Spike-TV's "MANswers" last night (American national cable-tv series)!

The segment was on how to escape from handcuffs.

Curtis did a neat 'behind-the-back' full-view slipping out of the cuffs--to demonstrate the apparent ease it is to escape - when the cuffs aren't on too tight. No real 'exposure' there.

Curtis did demonstrate actual 'shimming'...but he wisely led viewers to think that a 'pocket clip' on a pen would act as a shim. Again, sort of an exposure - but any attempt by a viewer to use a pen-clip would just lead to failure.

Lastly, a security guard company owner - revealed to the viewers that most all modern handcuffs all open with the SAME key. Perhaps THIS was the worst information that could have been revealed to the public.

Good job, Curtis.

So using a shim, will not work?

IF it will, you exposed methods.

Are you that despirate for attention that you have to resort to exposure?

I would imagine that such a busy international performer would not need to do such things.

I just hate exposure, and you really crossed a line.

When they want to chain you up and throw you in the swimming pool..
They will pay more for your services besides someone doing a zig zag or balloon to duck...

The average family doesn't have $1600 for birthday party.
Even corporations have budgets for an entire year that
probably add up to $3000.

despite what you think of the zig zag, the average audience
loves it...just like the blade box or even the beer barrel.
which by the way has sold for $5,000.00 as a collectors item
and has been on off-broadway too.

Actually in LA,,, they do huge bashes.... I go after events with budgets. I rather do 5-10 shows a month than 20 -30 jobs
Also when you think birthday party are just thinking thinking kids party? Lots of 40th and 50th bashes in LA/OC.
I must disagree with you that corps have a $3000 budget... I have been to event where companies have spent 100's of thousands of dollars to produce their events.
Event trends are changing to designs and branding these days.... Smile
When I say people rather see something else besides the zig I mean the events are looking for trendy/edging things like DB and CA

I only have to do less than 10 concerts or less
a month to feel like I'm loved by the world.

I really need to spend less time here and start
working on the film score I've been commissioned instead.

Um...

Did I say anything about a Governors ball, Emmy Awards, Red Carpet events, or $3,000 budgets?

I am confused.

Curtis, are you telling me that you work those events? I mean Sultans have huge events all the time but if you don't work them what is the reason to mention them?

You do birthday parties for $300 bucks, and don't get the bid, but also do the emmy awards? Really?

Curtis fact is they don't use no name magicians for those events. A guy who challenges a US Senator to a magic contest, does qualify as NO NAME. IF they have huge budgets they hire huge names, not a guy who seems to have a pretty tough time on stage.

Where is all the video of you working these events. We see some kid you are working with on stage, and you being dunked into a water tank, and you on Oriental TV, but no huge events you work 5-10 a month of. Go figure.

Time to stop playing off your dreams as reality.

If I wanted to pay $1600 for a magician
to come and perform at my birthday party.

I'd hire a "real" magi.

Getting back on track - I find GigMasters useful. It is not perfect but my ROI has been fine. There are some companies and some individuals that only use GigMasters to book talent. So why miss out on having a chance to present a proposal. There are some well known acts that use it as well.
