The Gift is a wonderful book by Paul Brooks that is, in my humble opinion, the best treatise on the subject of PS work. I will refrain from explaining what "PS" means as I do not believe that even the mention of this term in a public forum should be allowed. I hope that others will respect this.

The Gift by Paul Brook is a book that has been getting quite a lot of praise around here.
It deals with "d**l-r**lity" and/or "pr*-sh*w" style work, I believe. I haven't read it, but I'd like to do so soon. You can find more info at Paul Brook's website by clicking this link-- http://paulbrook.co.uk/products.htm |

I'm being lazy, so am copy and pasting this from another post where I mentioned the Gift:
"I have to agree with kriskraze, The Gift by Paul Brook is the best book on both PS work and DR that I have yet to read. I also have to agree that the effects are really secondary to the real lessons and subtleties contained within the book. The thinking behind the ideas are so well thought out that after reading The Gift I grabbed the rest of his books. I was really supprised at the original thinking that went into them, especially On Mephistos Shoulder which has some of the most original pieces I have seen for a long time. He has a great way to get you to think in detail about the effect, this is especially true of the DR work in The Gift. My thoughts on Paul after reading his material is that he is the next Derren or Luke. I would keep an eye out for him." |

Tone - have you ever thought about going into the secret service? You'd make a great cryptographer I reckon.

The Gift is probably THE contemporary work on PW. It's written form a position of experience and contains a lot of tips and subtleties. If you're into PW, and especially if you perform on stage, this is something to delve into.

Thanks for the replies and I definitely appreciate the care taken in a public forum (which annoys me that this is searchable by google) to refrain from spelling out what the book deals with specifically. good for those who know better how to keep things secret.
if it can be explained - perhaps by pm - what makes it special?compared to what is it the best on te topics you have mentioned. No need to drag this into the public here. and thanks again |

I don't know another comparable book to 'The Gift' although the forthcoming book Colin mentioned the other day sounds interesting.
It's fine to have this sort of information in public. If someone want to fork out 40 pounds for a book in a passing interest, then good luck to them. If they can't figure out what "pr*-sh*w" could be, then I don't think there is much to fear from them. |

My opinions:
Paul Brook's "The Gift" is a great book! It's not just a set of effects; it has a considerable amount of thought and insight that can help you to create your own "business boosting" effects (with a bit of time and imagination). The text is concise, extremely well written, and is overall an enjoyable read. I truly wouldn't appreciate PS work as much, had I not read this book. An important thing to remember is that everyone interprets a book in their own way. I recommend that you read as many reviews as possible, and not to trust just one or two 5-star review. |

Do you know, I was sure I'd posted a review of this book to the Café, but with the search facility down it's difficult to find things. Here it is:

What makes the book special?
Paul used to be some form of psychologist and you can see it in his work. When he explains an effect, principle, or subtlety he gives it his all. The 'ins and outs' of the human mind are explained and you are given a motivation for everything that you will be peforming. The way that he relates the information is really concise and waffle free, making the books a real pleasure to read. I am a really big fan of his products being REAL BOOKS as I really hate ebooks. Whenever I read one of his books it fills me with a lot of inspiration and excitement that I had lost for a while. He makes you see the big picture, as well as the minute detail; kinda like that Tony Robbins motivational guy. The best way to find out, is to look at the reviews of his stuff or buy one of his books and experience it for yourself. |

Once you buy any of paul's books, you can access his forum for discussion on each book, and learn from the man himself, ask questions and so on...very useful..
you can also share ideas and presentations too...
I've asked to be banned

I only have Paul's Brook Test and On Mephisto's Shoulder, so I cannot fully comment on The Gift.
What I can say is that if it is anything like his other books then it will be a real gem and 'must have' book. I ordered this at the end of last week, so I will post an informed review after I have digested it's contents. Dr.J
