Nope, Platt was a small guy. What I LEARNED from this was very MAJOR... the first guy doing the Indian cups... His false transfer and timing of showing the ball vanished. Look at it and study it...

I don't recall him talking THAT FAST... fast, but not as fast as the clip.

It's a pity the whole routine wasn't shown to put it in context.

The clip starts a short way into the routine, after he does a couple of 'shows' of the ball appearing and disappearing. The fast & furious segment comes next as a deliberate attempt to confuse, before the final phase where he offers to slow it down so the specs can follow what's happening...ending with the production of two loads - a lemon and an orange.

The clip of just the cups (aluminum) with a sponge ball is Johnny Paul. His routine requires special cups... and as you know, I made up a number of sets, and you can get 'em from http://www.stevensmagic.com complete with the routine on DVD.

I'm just starting out with those cups. I've been using the rounded cups and shying away from the more traditional styles. Man, was that dumb on my part. These cups are amazing because of the range of things you can do with them -- both regular balls and sponge balls(!) Who knew? I never even considered sponge balls.
On the other hand, don't get these cups -- the fewer people who work with them, the more unique I'll be Smile

Scott... the clip seems to be a tad fast at the beginning, but shows you what a great routine it is. Paul's interaction with the audience is great.

Pete-seeing as this was televised etc then I think he made a huge effort with it.
When I saw him he did it fairlu fast but certainly didn't put as much effort and energy in as he did then.

I loved watching this again. The clip of Vernon at the Castle, who is he working for? Isn't he from the Dick Van Dyke show? I know that clip is on the Vernon biography video from about 10 years ago and is a riot.

Richard Deacon is the actor's name. Excellent character actor from many TV appearances in the 50's and 60's.

Played Mel Cooley (sp?) on the DVDyke show.
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

Who is the magician performing with the transparent glass cups? I know that I should know but I'm having a brain far* at 4:40 in the morning.

I just spoke to an ex-Chicago magician who answered a question many have asked. "Who was first with a sponge ball cups routine. Johnny Paul or Jim Ryan?"

It was Johnny Paul.
