I'll apologize in advance if this thought has been presented in the past. I tried searching for it, but the search engine is down. I'll take my chances...
In the spur of the moment today, while performing a prediction effect for a spectator, I text messaged the prediction to her phone and asked her to wait until I told her to check it. The ultimate response blew me away, and was on par with or better than any reaction I've ever received to the effect or any like it. It makes sense to me. It's truly a prediction you cannot change or switch or compromise in any way. It's as authentic as can be. The spectator can hold the prediction medium in her hand from start to finish. I realize this may not be suitable for all prediction routines or performance styles, but I'd like to hear what you all think of the idea.

I personally like the element of surprise when doing an effect that involves texting. But obviously, you can't perform the effect, and then send it.. cause it will appear as if you just sent the information after the specatator told you.
I think it would be awesome, to go up to a random stranger.. Tell them to think of something.. and then instead of asking them what it is, to see if it matches any prediction. without your hands ever going in your pockets.. you just stare at them. and then all of a sudden, they get a text, and tell you to hold on so they can check it.The text is the thought they were thinking. That would blow My mind personally, if someone did that to me.. if I didn't know how it was done.
It occured to me at once that love could be a great illusion, that makes fools of brilliant thinkers everyday

The revelation of predictions is something that, I think, is something that must be constantly re-evaluated in the field of mentalism.
I've done predictions over the phone, instant messaging, voicemail, and via text messaging. There are lots of ways in which you can do this. Look at each effect you do and see whether you truly have to be there in person. If you don't, why not? Play with reveals and I think that methods of adapting to different reveals should start to become obvious. Good luck. |

Before now, I've texted someone I didn't know during a small gig, and told them to go fetch a book, I told them the page number, and what kind of word to think of - and to text me when they feel they have transmitted that word to me correctly...
I texted back the word, and I was right... great fun...
I've asked to be banned

... I love this idea and have been playing with it for awhile.
With modern phones one can even send a video clip or photo.
