I use very very fine steel wool. Use it to rub the card and the image will fade without tearing up the card. I love Soul Snatcher. That ending is a real kick in the head.

I have actually used a pencil eraser, and it will not damage the card, although I like the thought of using a grinding wheel.

Fine steel wood is perfect and fine sand paper works as well.

Thank you, all! I will experment on some old cards first. Does the loss of the lamination ever cause problems?

WR,
Use an ink eraser. It has fine sand mixed in rubber. They look almost similar to pencil erasers. Also, fine steel wool works well. After erasing the pip, rub the back of your thumb nail on the erased portion to get back the shine. HAPPY ERASING!!! Ustaad P.S. The ink eraser can also be used effectively for cleaning PCB (printed Circuit Board) contacts as well as other eletrical contacts which show signs of corrosion.

Acetone may also be helpful to erase the face of a card.

The freindly auto repair shop, or the auto section at W/KMART, has various grits of abrasive sponges. They look a lot like the green pads used for dishes. I started with a medium grit and worked down. These scrubby pads really take the lamination and ink off quick! A small plastic cutting board works pretty well at keeping from scratching up the dining room table. I've used the finer grits to 'age' my tarot cards (OK, so I only use the major arcana). If you really wanted to put some protection back without being too obvious, a quick spray with some clear gloss sealer might do the trick. Or even wax rubbed in by hand. For a special touch I keep them wrapped in a silk (tied with a ribbon) then stored in a carved wood box that has had several drops of frankinsense oil dropped in. Not too obvious, just enough to help hint at exotic gypsy imagery, like a horse drawn sulky clattering on it's way back to the village through a cold, foggy night . . . Scent seems to be an all too- often overlooked aspect of story telling.

I erased the whole face of a card. I have worked out a handling that is spooky,I feel, as their card is placed on the table in front of them and then turned over as I say ..."and don't worry about the bet..it is taken care of...:

I'm not familiar with this effect, but it seems to me that you could just buy a blank faced card from a magic dealer.
