I placed my order and am cursing the months of January and February. I predict this will be the best book of 2008!

I just want to thank Richard Hatch for publishing the latest book from Nick Trost. I am delighted he is planning multiple volumes as well. My favourite magic shop is now my favourite magic publisher as well! I envy anybody coming to Nick Trost for the first time. I am very passionate about card magic and have read hundreds of card books over the years. And I can honestly say that 'The Card Magic Of Nick Trost' contains more creativity than any other book I own. His effects are a joy to learn and a joy to use. I cannot wait to read the latest book. If I ever meet you Richard, the drinks will be on me!
All the best, Joe |

I only really buy books on magic theory, or history.......I swore off buying books containing card tricks a few years ago.....but I'll buy EVERY SINGLE Nick Trost volume that Dick publishes.
Discovering Nick Trost for the first time is something I also envy for folks who may not yet have read "The Card Magic of Nick Trost", but now have an opportunity to buy this new H&R publication. You'll be reading about dozens and dozens of absolutely killer effects that will drop specs jaws, and almost to a tee they will require only very basic sleights, if they require any sleights at all. This is powerful card magic that allows you to concentrate almost 100% on presentation as opposed to concentrating on method and technical chops. The fact that Trost's effects are relatively sleight free in no way reduces their impact. As a matter of fact, in "The Card Magic of Nick Trost", many of the effects requiring absolutely no sleights whatsoever play FAR MORE strongly than some other creators effects that are overloaded with knuckle-busters. |

For those with The Card Magic of Nick Trost check out "What's in a Name" Speller. This will show you an example of the strong, no sleight magic will be in these new books. I look forward to adding them to my already growing Nick Trost collection.

I'm pretty much the bookseller, he's the publisher, at least in terms of making decisions regarding layout, paper, binding, choosing the printer, etc. He has spent a lot of time on this particular project to make sure it is our best production to date, including fedexing proof sheets to Nick Trost several times for any last minute changes (I get the impression that Mr. Trost is a bit of perfectionist in this regard). I think all Trost fans will be very impressed with the book and advance feedback has already encouraged Charlie to start work on Volume 2. An advance peek at Volume 1 will be in the March issue of M-U-M which includes an essay on Nick Trost by Jon Racherbaumer and several tricks from the book chosen by Jon.

Not to be negative, but that's a major drag that it's an article in MUM. A magazine with small distribution and not available from H&R or elsewhere.
I think there's a lot of folks who are eager to read about Nick Trost, the man. Hopefully Jon will make his essay available elsewhere for those who aren't members of SAM. MUM, like The Linking Ring, is a bit of a rag, and not enough of a reason to join SAM. It's a shame that Jon's article on Nick won't be more widely read. ANYTHING on Nick Trost needs to be widely available to magicians. Nick Trost gives lessons on the how and the why of what high quality magic should look like, as opposed to the crap that's so often seen today. Trost is a GIANT in card magic, and it's time folks gave him his due. He needs a cover on Genii with a full length story, NOW....not after he's gone. |

Hi Richard,
Do you have a rough idea for how many volumes there will be? Or will it depend on sales? Thanks! I cannot wait for the book! Roll on March... Joe |

Will this only be available through H&R or will other retailers carry it? Doesn't matter to me one way or the other as I am buying the book regardless. I'm just curious is all.

Cameron, it will be widely available. You should be able to purchase it from your local or favorite magic dealer shortly after publication. You might encourage them to make early arrangements to stock it to avoid a delay in delivery. They can purchase it through us or through their favorite wholesale supplier.

Silverking,
You were right up until a year or so ago. Joining SAM just to get a subscription to MUM was not worth it. But since the makeover to the magazine, it is as good as the big two (MAGIC, Genii). Now if only the IBM would do the same to the Linking Ring... |

Mike, your post jogs my memory that I did read recently of HUGE improvements to MUM under its new editor.
BUT, as a member of the IBM I'm comfortable saying "The Linking Ring" IS A RAG, and that I'd like to see the Trost article in a magazine that offers single issues to purchase instead of MUM. How's that |

Can't say how much I look forward to this book!
Ordered it from H & R yesterday togehter with some other goodies I found in the H & R list. Got excellent service from Richard who suprised me beeing able to press down the postage charge even more than what was first stated...which to me was already a low cost. Was pleased to see Destiny Deck was included in the book. Found it on a dealer site and have long planned to order it, but now I don't need to do that... Hope it not takes to long for the other volumes to be published as this is a set of books I want as soon as possible...! All the Best Magnus |

I had a conversation with Nick yesteray at the Magi Fest in Columbus OH. He informed me that this is book one of NINE!! It's hard to belive that there is enough material for 9 volumes. I'm going to talk to him today. I don't think he was pulling my leg, but I'm going to check.

For those who may have been looking, pop up a few forums into the "books for sale" forum to see that pepka has his copy of "The Card Magic of Nick Trost" up for sale at a VERY fair price.
Mike, you'll have to tell Nick about the buzz on his new book.........and what high regard folks hold his material in. BTW, I'm still loving "Power Plays"......I do most of the punch work, and I'm only one in my neck of the woods doing it |

Hi Silverking,
That stuff kills doesn't it! It's nice that it's flying under the radar. BTW - Nick was BSing about the volume of material. There's just one book. I think March 3rd is the release date. Mike

There seems to be a demand for the original Card tricks of Nick Trost book so why isn't there a reprint in the works? It's hard enough as it is to make money in the Magic Publishing business that I would think if a "diamond mine" was found one would profit off of it. I don't understand.
