Each meeting you have a theme like close up magic, card magic, stage etc...then the members are to bring and perform something in that genre. Have your ring do shows for the community.

Bring in lecturers to help improve your skills...

Just a couple of thoughts.

In addition to performing, our ring provides competition-style evaluation sheets. Members may request to have their performance evaluated by ring members. Evaluations are written in a positive and constructive manner to give the member improvement points to consider.
How you leave others feeling after an Experience with you becomes your Trademark.

We don't have a formal ring, but we do have a club. I have started bringing in professional magicians to lecture across western Canada and, recently, I have signed on for Lee Asher's Xellent Lecture Series. In addition to the lectures, we have an annual swap meet and various themes for the montly meetings.

I've been in several cubls (rings) over the years. In one we met at a resturant and after eating we went around the table and each member did a trick. We would often pause a bit to discuss the trick. Theme programs work good, having a card night, a coin night, parlor night, stage night, etc. and get members who specialize in each of those areas perform and possibly do a "teach a trick". We also had one meeting a year that was a member lecture night. We rotated it around the club, but one meeting a year a member would come up with and present a lecture to the club. One of the best we had was given by a 16 year old kid who came up with some very cleaver close-up routines. Sometimes the best talent is in your own backyard.

Our annual schedule is quite varied and we have several traditional events each year. Check out our website and get the list. we generaly have two or three lecturers a year, our annual convention (Coming up in March http://www.magi-whirl.org) we have our childrens night in september just before school goes back to session. we have our magician of the year competition in april and our comedy magic competion in may. officers get initiiated in august. and we have a holiday party in december. other favorites are our annual auction/swap meets and our famous four corner lectures by the members. We try to keep a little variety in material presented so that we can serve the various tastes in our membership.

Ring 362 has a full calendar of Ring meetings with themes, Teaching Tables (short lectures by members), contests, and public shows. We are a small Ring, so anyone (member or guest) is welcome to perform at a Ring meeting.

Yours,

Paul
