While at the Reno IBM convention two years ago it was reported that there would be no winner of the Karrel Fox award of Comedy Magic due to nobody being able to fill the requirements. I have emailed IBM with no response. Does anybody know just what is expected to win this award?
Thank you, Dr. Solar

Where are any of the long term IBM members that might know of this award that seems to be so guarded that it couldn't be given out, at least, for the last two conventions? What are the criteria for such an award? Karrel Fox, does anybody remember him? I know you do, but, who has received this high award, thereby knowing its requirements?
Thanks,

This is what their site says
Stage performers will be considered for the Karrell Fox Comedy Award. This is only awarded when the judges in the Stage Contest Preliminaries deem an act worthy. The standards are intentionally very high. A recipient of the Karrell Fox Comedy Award will not necessarily be selected to progress to the Gold Medal Finals. |

Yes, I remember Karrell, great entertainer, great magician, and great comic. Has a book or two published,on several DVDs and produced some fine tricks. I always enjoyed his performances and instruction.

That definition does not in any way say a thing. What could possibly be worthy? And if the judges change from year to year, how do they know the specific requirements? Does one have to look like him? Dress like him? Somebody must know a specific set of standards that they are judging for, hence the term- judged worthy.
Thanks again, but still inquiring, Dr. Solar

It is like the IBM Gold medal. They don't necessarily award it every year, only to those performances that they think are exceptional. Same with the Karrel Fox award, the comedy has to be "exceptional". There is no real criteria other than the judges opinion. If the majority of them feel that the performance was extraordinary compared to most winning performances they can award the prize. Generally they look for originality, audience reaction, continuity, and over all smoothness of the performance. I've seen acts go on to win FISM that didn't get the gold medal or Karrel Fox award from the IBM.

Hi Steven
I did ask the chairperson and got no response, that is why I brought it up here. So OK photius, I see, it is just a name to honor Karrel Fox and it is mainly for comedy magic that stand way out. Got it. Thanks, Dr. Solar
