I am interested in doing a Q&A act but I don't like the one ahead and pre-show methods of doing that. I plan to have people seal their questions in an envelope. I checked several methods by Osterlind, Mann, Riggs but they didn't suit me. Basically I am looking for resources on gimmicked envelopes or gimmicked bags.
Thanks poison |

Ah Ha has an approach with non-gimmicked items.
Peek Performances has several ideas but a couple using specific but non-gimmicked items. Riggs, I think, had some good ideas on some of his work using a gimmicked envelope. I know you said you looked at his work and it wasn't what you wanted but I am thinking of a very specific item from one of his works (name escapes me at the moment) that seems to fit exactly what you want. Again, it's not a gimmicked envelope or bag but Switchcraft is a great value and the result ends up the same. Is there a particular reason why you want to limit the answers to "gimmicked envelopes or gimmicked bags". It is, of course, your choice but, in the end, the audiences doesn't care whether you use gimmicks or not, as long as the performance is convincing. Many times, IMHO, gimmicked items stick out as such, either due to handling constraints or lack of continuity with the other props used. I was just curious if there was a specific reason, that's all, whatever you have in your act needs to be your choice, I am just a curious guy by nature. If there is, maybe somebody here can help out in overcoming whatever obstacle is in the way. I think Kenton Knepper had some ideas on gimmicked bags. I actually got a bag that fits his description coming out of an NFL game around Halloween this season. I can see why he had the idea. I can't think of exactly where it is but maybe this will jog somebody's memory. Looking forward to seeing more thoughts on this subject. |

Cant remember who came up with it but there was a way of using chemicals, to make an envelope transparent enough to read through, then it would air dry and be fine,
Tanis, personally I use Osterlinds method as shown on his dvds you finish clean Tanis |

Poison, I picked up this book on ebay a while back: "50 Sealed Message Reading Methods by Burling Volta Hull" If you can track it down, you may (or may not) like one or more of the methods taught in that book. Elliott |

Here is my suggestion.
It is written by Gene "Pantini" Grant and can be found on page 3 of Phantini's Lost Book of Secrets. Should be a very addordable purchase for you and it will have many other fun items within its pages to get you launched in the direction you would like to go. Let me know if you have any questions, as always with anything I post. Best of luck in the fun journey you are about to take. Also you could do a Q&A act with no gimmicks at all if this suits your fancy. Use the search engine here and type in the two words "Dynamite Mentalism." Wild ride man. |

Martin Breese marketed "The Working Performer's Sensor Envelope," which I have a few of. Envelopes are smaller size 2 1/2 X 4 1/4" but the effect is pretty much what you're describing. Seal a card or paper inside an opaque envelope, and within moments, you can access what's been written.

If you cannot find something acceptable, let me know. I almost released a method/product a few years ago, but decided to keep it to myself for my own work. It allows reading the contents of unopened sealed envelopes, on stage, real time. You can also get one ahead while doing it. The envelopes can be handed back to the specs after or during the Q&A. I'm reluctant to part with it, but if there is nothing else out there right now, I may consider it. Keep in mind, it is for stage and platform use, not close-up. But if I do, it will be professionally priced. Tony |

Read the message and then immediately burn the envelope. It's in Tarbell and Kaye's "Complete Magician". I've never tried it.
There's another method in George Anderson's book "It must be Mindreading". Barry |

"Remoto" by Phantini is good but can't be performed for smaller crowd as the method would be obvious. "Dynamite Mentalism" is great but needs update and you can't answer relevant questions (Again, it's better for larger crowds).
Volta's system is nice but the move is bold, and again, it is more suitable for larger crowd. Osterlind's idea (similar to Busch's "Special Delivery") is very nice, the only drawback is holding the envelopes too close to you for too long. In my point of view the effect is: they write their questions, they seal them, I insert the envelopes to bag (or place them aside). I place the bag aside. I answer the questions. If I need to touch the envelopes again, each spectator gets HIS OWN SEALED envelope. Yes it sounds difficult but I believe it can be done. |
