Is it not possible to make different colors of flashpaper or flashcotton?
I know that different materials burn different colors, so wouldn't it be possible to add another element to the nitrocellulose and create different colors of fire flashes? What I wouldn't give to be able to produce a blue or violet fireball.. Eryq |

Don't know if this helps, but a green flame is generally pretty environmentally unfriendly. That's the word on the street anyway. If you're into that whole thing.

They make it, its imported from Singapore. Now as for the green flame, its a combination of chemicals.

But coloured flash paper burns with teh stnadard colour (americans take note on spelling there! ) its a regular orange flame just like the white paper. Well at least the stuff I got recently does anyway.
The black papr is great for the voodoo trick using sympathetic ink(can't recall who its by). Green could be copper but not sure why that would be non environmentally friendly? |

Food color can be added to the cotton and paper. Next, let it dry.

I'd be pretty afraid of mixing other chemicals into my flash paper. besides the questions of toxicity, I have basic safety concerns. You get the other color because something else is burning. I have no idea what that burn will do to the over-all temperature of the flame as well as the burn time and wouldn't want to find out its not what I expected.
It is always darkest just before you are eaten by a grue.

Green flame?
Barium Chlorate, barium nitrate, or barium chloride. All toxic and are used to make explosives. So good luck on that. Randi |
