Sorry, I can't get the search to work.
How do the Eisenhower dollars compare to the Morgan dollars? I was going to go to a bank and get 10 of the Eisenhower dollars, because I'm too cheap to pay $25 a piece for the Morgans. |

Ikes are ok, just sort of hard and slippery. The nickel alloy composition isn't as pretty as real silver, but they sound nice.
When the search is working, you will find many, many threads about clad vs. silver coins.

How hard is it to soften them?

Next to impossible. The cladding alloy is very hard and durable. This isn't a problem if you stick to routines that don't require soft coins, but beware of moves that involve sliding coins across each other, Ikes will talk, so you might have to devise some sort of cover noise.

Is there any type of fluid that will kill the noise?

Fluid? Not really.
If you try to "soften" Ikes you will end up with a two-tone coin. Check with coin dealers and look for "Junk silver". The last Morgans I bought were $11.00 a piece. You may be able to find them for less. Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and make the investment. FWIW Cheers!

Alright, well I'll still get some of the Eisenhower, and look for the Morgans. So the Eisenhowers are more slippery than Kennedy half dollars?

Good luck finding them at a bank. Most don't carry them anymore, no demand from their commercial customers. You will probably have to buy them from a coin dealer and will pay a bit more than a buck a piece for them. The s***ls for them are not soft, so you don't need soft coins. Weight feels a bit different from morgans, but the handling is ok, I still perfer actual morgan silver dollars, but to each his own.

Hey The Guy...
You can get soft morgans from a coin dealer for around 9 to 15 bucks... They are called junk silver or slicks or culls.... IF they al don't look the same as far as color you can clean them up a bit with a jewlery cloth... Good luck Shawn.

I paid $1.50 for my Ikes. I then went to soft Morgans for about $10 a piece. However I found the soft Morgans were hard to match. So I traded them in for 1921 Morgans which are not soft, but are still much quieter than my Eisenhowers.

I'm going to order about 20 Ikes from a guy, and I'll look for the junk Morgans at a coin store on Monday.
