I've got the Burglar Ball, and enjoy the look on people's faces when it drops into the box. But it only lasts 2-3 minutes, and then you put it away. I wondered, "Can I make the ball come OUT of the box?"

And then I wondered if The Thing might be a good match for the ball REALLY coming out of the box! I'm wondering about size, and whether the cloth used is supple enough to use as a drape for the BB box. I've seen the video clip of The Thing, but have not seen it live.

Hi Ed,

Good thinking, but I don't think it would work smoothly,
unless you were able to cover a total switch.

Then the Burgler Ball is much, much smaller than The Thing, and The Thing would be far less impressive that small.

Also the cloth use in one, would not be right for use with the other,
and the size/shape of the Burgler Box would not work for The Thing.

You might have more luck with an ITR concept for this combo?

Magically,

Thanks for the input, Walt.

My idea was simply to do my normal BB routine - secure lid on box, hold ball above box, cover, ball goes it. (I hope it's a bit more entertaining than that when I actually perform it!!) Uncover and show the ball in the box.

Here, I usually take the bands off the box, open it up and spill out the ball. But I saw a post the other day about weaving stories around your tircks, rather than just narrating what's happening. So if this is a burglar breaking in, wouldn't he want to escape when discovered?

I could probably figure out how to get the ball back out under cover, then remove the silk and show secured box and ball separated. But what if the "burglar" wanted to _run away_?? And now he has to be apprehended? I could see something like a zombie, and thought of the Thing because (at least from what I saw in the video clip) you don't see anything underneath.

I supposed I could try the BB with a larger ball that would match the Thing. Or are there better ideas to try to work this through?

I had a few thoughts incase you are interested Ed.

-Have a small wire sewn in between two silks.
-Sew a square shut in one exact 1/4 corner of the silk with the wire inside.
-Give one end of the wire a quick bend about 1/4-1/2 inches from the end closest to the outside corner.
-Make a small hole in the corner closest to the centre so that the wire can poke through when needed. Place a good portion of magicians wax onto the end that will poke through.
-For now let the wire loose or just fall where it may inside the sewn compartment. This way it acts as a normal silk.
-Now after you perform the burglar ball, remove the lid and rubber bands and set aside.
-Next pick up the silk agan and pinch the angle part of the wire inside the silk and gracefully wisk the silk a couple of times as you place it over the box and the ball and allow the wire to pop through the hole.
-Use the wax to attach the wire and the ball. Because the ball is in the box it should stay still inside the box and with enough pressure it will stick to the wax.
-Now perform a mini-mini-zombie routine.

This sounds good in theory but may need some modifications, but thought it would get the creative juices flowing.

Good luck, and if I can offer any more help let me know.

Thank you, Peter! It does indeed get the juices flowing. I've not used wax before, so I didn't think of it.

I'm not quite clear on what you meant with:
-Sew a square shut in one exact 1/4 corner of the silk with the wire inside.

Is that a small sewn square, about 1/4 inch square, to capture the end of the wire in one corner of the silks?

-Take two silks and drop in the wire between them.
-Sew all around the edges.
-Next imagine dividing the silk into fourths, or four little squares. Sew one of these imaginary squares with the wire in it. (man is kinda hard to explain...lol). Does that make any sense?
