They say there’s a first time for everything.
In this case, it’s the first time of many things. On Monday, February 4th, I will be presenting the Magic Squares to my mathematics class. I’ve never performed the Magic Squares before, never performed for this class, in fact, I’ve never presented anything to this class, and I’ve never given a talk (albeit a brief one) on mathematics before. A lot of first. So here’s the scoop. Before each lecture our Prof gives us a Sudoku to complete. Occasionally she will present a silly mathematical stunt. I told her I have something to show, and now I have 10 min to present my piece. To prepare I’ve researched a method (Harry Lorayne’s from The Magic Book, page 218) and am working on a script (which is actually rather clever, and I will share it with you on Monday), as well as, of course, practicing. What I’m also doing is explaining the math behind it. Obviously I won’t tip the secret to how I solved it so fast, but I will explain HOW someone could create one using overlaying matrices, and a simple algorithm. If anyone has any tips, or ideas for me, please let me know! Ben
