Doug Higley, had a good idea.
In fact very good. I know this is no surprise to many of you. Doug has lots of good ideas and some really cool gaffs but when I read of his idea for a Monte presentation with animal traps I thought it was great. I immediately decided it would be used to close my stage show. (I had started using it in my theater show in Charleston two summers ago) Doug had stopped offering it because I was using it in my show. I truly thank him for that and wanted to do so publicly. Anyway the show I was using it in has now been retired. Doug will be offering the act again from what I understand and if you did not get it before I would suggest getting it now if you can. Note: I used six traps instead of three and mine came from a trapping supply store. (They are not chrome plated) I my presentation it was the audience that made the choice as to what trap I would place my hand in. It was a sort of hypnotic visualization demonstration. (If any of you are interested I can explain more at a later time) Eventually I would place my hand in the trap they had chosen by elimination. It would snap shut causing no injury for 'they had chosen the correct trap.' I would slide my hand out of the trap showing the hand uninjured and then use the chain from the safe trap to set off one of the other traps and then use that chain to set of the next. This would result in the traps all being linked together or onto each other. O----()----()----()---()---()--- Sort of like this. When setting the traps off they leap a little of the stage as they snap shut. The line I used as I did this was look they jump up their mouths hungry for flesh. They are awful things. I would hold the string of traps up and then drop them to the stage after thanking the audience for coming to the show. The trap act served me well and once again I thank Doug publicly for the deference he showed me. Thanks & Best Wishes, Jim

Wow...geesh...class act their buddy. Since this is so out of left field, I can only say glad to help out a major performer.
Yes the point of the bit is to allow the audience to make the choice. 6 traps? Cool! Just so the folks know, 3 traps is the routine I wrote up. The history is: I was selling it for $5 (what a deal!) It went like hot cakes and got great reviews across the board. There came a time when I just passed it over to Abbott Magic to offer with their traps as a no charge item...seeing as how my routine had turned a kind of a dud item (the trap) into the biggest seller in Abbott history. (You guys were buying 3 at a time after all). I wrote the routine after having one of the traps and not having anything to do with darn thing except to show off "oooh...look what I can do because I'm strupid! I put my hand in a trap!" Great for side show but not for magicians. So I came up for a routine for magicians and mentalists that does the deed and it got outrageous results. When Jim made it his finale piece, and I became aware of that, my decision was to pull the routine from being offered as a freebee in deference to a top performer who was after all honoring my idea with a top spot in the act. So, now what... Well I might sell it again but for now IF anyone is interested (DO NOT PM ME! My box fills up daily as it is)just eMail me and at least this month I'll be happy to eMail you the Traps-A-Monte-Mental routine. You can get the traps from Abbott's of course Chromed (But Greg will get you some NOT chromed of you ask) or you can do your diligence and find them in the open market of hardware stores and suppliers. It is the 1 1/2 small animal trap. I prefer Abbott's if only because I am extremely brand loyal to those companies who have supplied me for all these years. (I bought my first Abbott's Magic props in 1964). Thanks again to Jim for the unexpected tip of the exceptional hat. Honored. Doug Oh and using the chain to set off the 'other' traps' was typical JC brilliant. Cool beans.

Yeah...the single trap is kind of a flopper as a stand alone.

After seeing Jims act I purchased the traps ...Six in all. I placed them on the back porch and let them "Age" a bit. Unfortunately I've never had the B @ L. L. S. to put my hand in one So I never needed the manuscript and when I did look for it it was gone Now I know 'The Rest of the Story"
Perhaps I should perform it at an upcoming PARTY on the first? Hey Doug ....? :dancing:

EMail me Slim, I'll resend it to you. I would be honored if you did that routine at the show but feel no pressure.
By the way the key person did get to watch the Blues Bros. movie for the first time and really loved it. Of course the show is a secret...she will be jazzed! Eddie..stick with me kid...you'll see History play out on a short string...
