So I have been gone a little while, I wanted to hash out some business stuff and get a good footing for 2008... oh and I also got engaged. However, while on my break from the forums I also stepped away, for a moment, from magic (it had to be done for other essential tasks to be accomplished). I wasn't sure what would happen when I went back into it. I finally got all of my ducks... errrr... cups, in a row and was able to venture into the art once again. Shortly after, I had the honor and opportunity to spend some quality time with Bill Palmer and friends for dinner. What a great bunch of guys, and let me just say... Mr. Palmer's wealth of interesting and random knowledge far exceeds the available bandwidth of the magic Café'(special thanks to Bill and Rick for that opportunity).
Then tonight, I was talking with a close friend of mine about the cups and balls trick. He had never seen it or heard of it. My cups and loads were still in the car from the night I met bill. Also, it was 1 am and I we were parked behind the radio station where I work waiting for the ice to melt off the window. I reached in the back and grabbed a shoe box from a pair of boots I just bought. Put the box in the center console like a makeshift table and flipped the box lid so that if a ball rolled the lip of the lid would catch it. I then did my FULL routine with final loads right there one on one. I in the driver seat, he in the passenger seat and the cups in between. You can not get more close up than that. Needless to say, the trick ended with a shocked look and a string explicative words. It was then, at that moment, I decided that although I may practice and sometimes perform other effects, that the cups and balls would be my main focus. I'm currently working on my routine and new ideas (to which I will keep you all posted). It's good to be back! -DJ |

C&B's just make you feel good don't they?
The practice, the planning, the practice, the rehearsal, the practice, making that "doo-hickey" that lets something special happen a little easier, the practice, writing script, the practice, the rehearsal, performance, performance, performance. Have fun DJ! "Break on through to the other side..." |

Congrats on your engagement and return to magic!
Great story, talk about tough conditions... looks like you still have your cups, and balls, and ducks in a row. Lucky you having Bill across a dinner table, what is your fav choice for routine these days? Magically, Walt |

Vernon's and Ammar's are great but I get really impressed when I see things like Tommy Wonder's 2 cup routine and the creativity and "next level" thinking of Jason Latimer's glass cups. At the end of the day however, I am really trying to stay away from other peoples routines and methods as I am currently working on my own and would love to have an actual "original" classic... albeit near impossible, I know -DJ |

IMHO the sequences, be them Vernon, MIller, Ammar, really are of little importance. Your personality, sell, style and the finish are all that really matter.

BINGO! I was trying to figure out a way to say that but couldn't find the words. Thanks Mr. Biro!
