I want to add a lock routine to my act but don't know to much about it. Ive read 7 keys to baldplate but I'm looking for a routine where you don't have to touch the lock if possible, or as little as possible. Ive heard about routines that a husband is in shackles and his wifes key is the only one to open it etc.. I want a lock with a key not a combination lock. What lock and where to buy it and its functions would help.
Thanks Ezzet |

Supa Lock. Mick Hanzlick. Expensive, and wonderful.

Key-rect also is nice.
I hope one day someone will create an antique lock for more haunted routines... the good ones all look modern. Guess so that people think they are not gimmicked... but annoying for a seance!

As long as its a gravity lock, then yeah..i like 'em...personally, I've got ed fowler's one...
it doesn't matter which you get, it's the routine that counts! so work out the routine first, then work out which lock fits it best... oh and a little plug, at some point this year, I have an effect coming out with martin breese that uses a certain under-used lock...

Key-r-Rect is probably your best choice.
As for an "antique" padlock, the late David Deval had a version using a Squire padlock. I believe Cannon's Great Escapes carries a version.

Ezzet,
"Key-R-Rect" IS designed specifically for 7 keys to baldpate, as is the Hemingway Lock by Collectors' Workshop, as well as Ed "Carlyle" Fowler's and most other 'gravity' padlocks and they ALL require that the performer handle the lock. While there are other gimmicked lock as well, they tend to be combination padlocks and, like those mentioned, most require at least some handling by the performer. The only one I know of that even approaches an 'antique' look that will open without anyone handling it is a Martin lock. Good luck finding one and if you do it will cost hundreds, if not thousands, of $$.

There is a way to use an un-gimmicked lock, never touch the lock, etc. It's explained on Ed Fowler's NEW DVD, The Carlyle Touch, Vol. 2.

Another vote for Key R Rect.
I've been using it for a long time and it always goes over well. |

Alan Wong's Dream Lock is great. Hocus Pocus usually has it on discount - around $90 elsewhere.

PsyLock offers many routines and the performer doesn't need to touch it after giving it to the spectator to hold.

Ed Fowler also has another routine using his gravity lock which is brilliant
You might say reality is the result of complex negotiations between the observer and the observed. But that is simply a point of view.
Many Thanks Garrad |

The performer does not have to touch a gravity lock. Only the item it's locked onto. BIG difference.
