A company to check out:
rosebrand.com they have every fabric imaginable for theatrical use...and check out some of the strech shapes. They take light well and look great on stage |

For painted backdrops, I have used local artists with great luck. I buy the raw material, have it all put together and then they do the artwork, based on my sketches and ideas. Just another thought.

Rode brand NY is also now doing custom printed backdrops to your specifications. You send the graphic and they put it on the drop. Very nicley done and the sky is the limit on size I have used them for years for theatrical productions and they are tops. I alos have a local artisit that do up to a 16x 30 drop from an artist renedering.

As for the backdrops from Magicbackdrops.com Our ring just bought one based on a demonstration from a dealer. The drop went up in less than a minute and the Height and wings are adjustable since then many of our memebrs have bought them and found them to durable and flexible in theiur use. I would reccomand a pair of them made to come together in the center to make even a larger backdrop. These are everything a jet set was not.
As for flame resistance. rose brand sells a spray on application that comes with NFPA certification if used according to the manufacturers specifications This can be sprayed on everything (a problem I have run into at trade shows) Mike |

Hey I have heard of a new backdrop from hocus-pocus.com
- it's called brickwall in a bag! From what I can tell it looks like it goes up faster than anything else - I found the site here and there is a video you can watch of it setting up and tearing down. http://www.impactmagic.com/brickwallinabag.html Its pretty darn cool - it looks like a real brick wall! |

Ooooh, that is pretty darn cool! Good find. It screams comedy and professional. And it looks like it flies up and down. I want one.

Keith -
Read through the pinned thread at the top of this area (Thread titled... Magic Backdrops - Ultimate Resource), and also follow the link in the first post on that thread, to an article on backdrops. Between the detailed article at the link, and a couple of additions on the thread, that's pretty much all of the info a performer needs to know about backdrop options. - Donald

As to set decoration (the OTHER part of the thread):
I am considering buying several old footlockers in which to store and transport my props. I will likely paint the sides black to look more like an ATA case that rock bands use...complete with my name stenciled on the sides. I am thinking of using them onstage as a set for the show. My show is titled "The Dream" and is essentially my story...the story of a little boy who had a dream to be on stage. Thoughts?
