When I encounter emotional statements like in your previous reply, angry or aggressive I recognize these as signs of weakness. When you begin to back track while trying to dig yourself out of a hole I begin to think you are unaware of your own parameters and are the one that lacks the logic.
Poking fun as you put it is generally done with class and without the use of words that intend to hurt. Poking fun is generally done with class. Grrrr!

As a consumer, I feel like its fair to know if you need a special article of clothing. That is the risk you take when you sell individual coin moves for $10.00. If I was going to buy a David Roth download from Fantasma (not sure if they came out yet) and it absolutely required an outside suit jacket pocket, I would definitely want to know because I don't wear suits very often. But, this doesn't necessarily tip the method.
But, obviously its unfair to tip someone's method. I just have my doubts about whether the method here was sufficiently novel, inscrutable and worthwhile to worry about mentioning the basic method. I would guess if anyone actually desired to purchase this after seeing the demo, it would be to get the handling rather than the method. Definitely not worth getting up in arms about a crappy trick, though. |

Steve, telling the consumer they need a hoodie only gives away the fact that that is where the coin winds up. It does not tell you HOW to get it there. In other words, it still doesn't tell you how the trick is executed. That is the real method.
I mean, let's face it, we're all big boys here. We know the coin has to wind up somewhere on your person. I don't think this is a big secret. The consumer has every right to know clothing restrictions.

Obviously you misread what I wrote before because I haven't "backtracked" from anything. In my original statement (that you took such offense to) I said you're too intelligent to believe the argument you proffered. The fact that you've abandoned your original position to instead debate about how mean I am lends credence to that idea. I think your argument was a bit disingenuous, but if you really see no difference between the requirements for this effect and those that may exist in Modern Coin Magic, and if you don't believe that people selling effects should be forthcoming about any significant restrictions in regards to their effect, then we're just not going to see eye to eye on this. That's ok. |

I find most of Tim David's tricks to be reworks of other tricks created by reputable hard working magicians.

I happen to work my tail off for the money that I make, And I believe that that entitles me to make an informed decision about where I spend it. That said, An informed decision in this case includes being told that a "hoodie" will be required to perform the effect. It does not matter if an alternate handling was given without the hoodie. That's not the effect shown in the demo is it? This is a real issue with me. People telling me how they think I should spend my money and what I should and should not know before doing so. Besides all that... If we are now reduced to our secrets depending on hoodies, We have a lot bigger issues. Tim

The effects on the DVD and lecture notes are far beyond your abilities. (They require mastery of the mechanic's grip.) It would only break your heart. Sincerely, Darwin Ortiz.......(This post has got to be in my top 5.) |
