So what are your favorite movie endings?
My number one is the last shot in Chaplin's Modern Times. Here's controversial one: the ending of No Way Out with Kevin Costner. Some felt cheated, I thought it was great. Another strange one: The Birds. Its non-resolution was very disturbing, but in a good way in my opinion. The last line of "Some Like it Hot." Jack Shalom

Chaplins City Lights (with the blind girl) gets me every time.
I'd have to say the ending to Big Fish is probably my favorite ending. It could have ended to mushy and in fantasy or it could have ended too realistic. Burton brought the two together in the perfect union. You get the sentimental fantasy in a realistic fashion if that makes sense. You'd have to see the film to know what I mean. Best, Tim |

He had earlier befriended a blind girl selling flowers on the street. During the entire movie she was under the impression that Chaplin was a millionare because she could not see what he really was. ( The Tramp) He eventually got her the money for an operation to restore her sight but was mistakenly arrested and imprisoned for it. In this scene she has her sight as well as a new life and has no idea that the little tramp is the person who had given her life back to her. She jokingly toys with him until she learns the truth of who he is. When she says.." I can see now" the line has two meanings. Enjoy.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kpeiPbjDlDs Best, Tim |

"Angels with Dirty Faces."
Not to be confused with "Angels with Sticky Faces" which is a completely different genre of film, and featured a happy ending.

Cinema Paradiso (short version - I've not seen the longer one).
If you haven't seen this, don't read the back of the DVD first as it tells you the ending!!!!!!!!!!!! (Luckily, my memory was so bad, I'd forgotten what it said). |

We all knew that Marty was going to end up calling Clara, but looking at his best friend as he's closing the telephone booth door saying..."Hey Ange...when are you gonna get married? You should be ashamed of yourself.....34 years old and all your kid brothers are married....." Ernest was very deserving of his academy award with that one!! Margarette

The closing scene of No Country For Old Men was amazing. People didn't really listen to it I'm assuming, but if you really listen to what Jones' character is saying, it is really significant. I truly appreciated that ending.
I also thought the ending to Pulp Fiction was quite powerful.

I love a lot of the movies mention and agree with all of it. I do have one that always sticks out in my mind because of the twist in the end "Wizards"

One time, when I was young, I botched a sleight so bad, Vernon, Marlo & Miller rolled over in their graves. But I didn't see Elmsley, probably because he was behind the others.
