Searching for a great ventriloquist figure?

Conrad Hartz, over at Yahoo Worldvents had a hand carved Basswood figure classic boy figure for sale last week-end. It must not have sold as he just posted a pix of the figure in a tuxedo.

Great figure maker with great looking figures and silky smooth action.

A weekend special...................Basswood Classic Boy in regular or dwarf
body ready to go.............great price for original figure. Email me.

Conrad Hartz--who in my mind is the Frank Marshall of our time--produces some of the very best basswood figures around. My Hartz figure, more than a decade old, still looks beautiful and functions very well as if it has just got out of Hartz's shop.

Get a Hartz, and you won't be disappointed.

I second that endorsement. His skill at taking a figure from a concept on paper, to a actual working figure is second to none.

I have held Ony's Hartz figure and the mouth is simply so smooth to operate.

The paint job is also so distinct...

Mr Conrad Hartz is great figure maker...

Hartz's paint job varies (depending on each figure's character), but all are superb! My Hartz figure has that famous Marshall orange paint job in the 50's, which looks fantastic on live show stage.

Yes Wanlu, I have three Hartz figures.

Two of them I won on eBay. The third one, (Percy) was a drawing I sent Conrad and the rest was history. Not all of the figures are used in my shows, I just love his work.

I'm not hungering for one of his dwaft figures.

Hi Wanlu,
if you mean the figure (Winston) on the right side of my website, he's a Dan Payes. It's a Preston figure that he discontinued making. He is my FIRST full size figure that I brought.

Which one is the best?
I can't really say that "one" is the best. I like each of them for a different reason. I can say, I like the Hartz for it's smooth action and it's unique look. The Selberg looks so real, sometimes too real. I have a 35" DummyWorks which I use for walkarounds and it's so light.

For soft figures, Steve Axtell is the man. My Old Storyteller (Jake) is a hit, the moment he comes out, and the expressions you can get from him says it all.

I have a Verna Finly, which I haven't used yet nut her workmanship is second to none.

I've attached a pix of some of my collection.

I have a Hartz figure, very smooth & nice figure!
Mine is not a classic boy figure, but a bald middle age man with big nose.
Somehow like one of our wayang (traditional puppet) clown character.
I will use him for my adult audience. I'm still developing his character.

Donald and all... Link below is a clip me with my Hartz granny figure, made by Conrad Hartz in the 90s. Conrad Hartz told me he made this originally for himself, as a tribute to Edgar Bergen's Effie Klinker figure.

Lola Belay ("Lola" is a Filipino term for grandma) is a very simple figure, which I like so much. She has only mouth and head movement... (stationary eyes, no blinkers/winkers... just like the original Effie)...

She is one of my regular figures now, and she's always a hit in my adult and kidshows.

By the way, pardon the language...

Worst thing that could happen to me was, finding eBay. Most of my collection, I got either thru eBay auctions or from postings of "For Sale" on the internet.

Reggie (Selberg) was ordered.
Elwood T. Bass (Dummyworks) brought at VentHaven.
Percy (Hartz) was ordered.
Duddly (One Way Street, orange muppet type) was ordered.
Winston (Dan Payes) was ordered.
Remote MDB (Axtell) brought at VentHaven.

I'm looking for a Conrad Hartz dwaft and said that's it. But if a bargain comes along I'll skips some meals to pay for it.

Wanlu, if something happens to me, you better get here quick, as my wife will most likely just throw everything out. I've taken over several rooms in the house and she wants them back.

Personally, Percy is my favorite looking figure. He was my drawing that came to life (no, his not real).

Hi Donald,

OFF TOPIC:

I just want to ask why you have an Axtell Old man...a Payes Old man and a Hartz old man...do they have different characters or different types of target audience?

Im asking because I have a Payes old man which I seldom use 'cos I only use it for adult gigs which I rarely do. Now I got an Axtell Old Man...which Im hoping to use for kidshows.

Thanks

Wanlu,
the Axtell old man (Jake) gets used the most. His tale of woe is about his doctor and the treatment there at. He also tells about his time in the army and his marriage.

Payes old man ( Mr. Thurston) is a hard nosed police officer with tales of his police work. He's also used as a complainer.

Hartz (Percy) tells about his stay in the hospital. He's not really a complainer but tells about his misfortune. A sweet guy with bad things happening to him.

Wanlu,

I'm sorry I don't have my Hartz's figure photos yet.
I will let you know when the photo is ready.

Yes, Mr. Hartz said that my figure is one of kind character.
