Just curious...
How many here utilize a "stage name" when performing? And no, Buck Naked, we know your story quite well already, no need for you to chime in. There is a fellow on lybrary.com peddling his wares under the name Artanis. Read that one backwards. He did it his way. Very clever. All right then superheroes...care to drop the masks and at least give the reason for the spotlight monikers you have chosen? It's OK, you can keep your secret identities secret. Double entendres allowed and encouraged...go: D |

For 15 years I went by the name Nikolai Diablo in my Sideshow and found that the public liked the character name and remembered it in conversation. The first name 'Nikolai' came from my grandfather and the second name 'Diablo' is of course from the show. Because I produce 'Theatrical' type shows, I prefer not to use my real name, because it doesn't seem right to call myself by my real moniker.
In my NEW production 'The Paranormal Show' I called myself Scott McClelland (my real name) for the first 8 months... but my stage personality was so far removed from who I really am I decided on a fictional name. In The Paranormal Show I now introduce myself as Vladimir Eisengrim. The 'Vladimir' was my uncles and I liked its conotations and the name Eisengrim is a tip of the hat to a great Canadian author, Robertson Davies. It seems to have caught on, all of the TV spots I have done in the past month using that name has garnered me some extra (positive) attention. I would normally use my real name if I was doing a impromptu show... but Carnival Diablo and The Paranormal Show are shows that play in a mythological world. I feel that if you are working as a mentalist and want to be as 'Real' as possible to the public, sticking to your real name is a good thing. But if you are a Bizzarist and are a bit over the top... using a stage name is more than appropriate. Look at Blackstone, Maven and Houdini, all of these men are remembered because of the exotic sound of their name. I am always interested in hearing of the 'stage' names that people come up with. Should be easy to remember and easy to spell. Think Carrot Top (real name, Scott Thompson, boring & unmemorable).

Not thought of that yet as I am just beginning. I have a hyphenated surname that I think is cool and for a long while I have used Mik instead of Mike.
Something to think about for the future, if I want a stage name.

I've always just stuck with Simon Grant for mentalism.
During the 'dark years' of magic (when I performed magic to children) I went by the name Bovril the Magician. |

I don't have a stage name, but I've been thinking in having one, my name is Nicolas Miguez, and since my stage persona is diferent from me it wouldn't hurt to come up with one.

I have stuck with Ace Of Harts since I was 14 years old. I was mentored by a very famous magician you all know, I am sure. He taught me a card trick that used the ace of harts so it just stuck as my signature piece. Even today 26 years latter and after making the switch to mental two years ago I still go by Ace or ace of harts. The only thing I have dropped is the card trick hehe.
No one said it would be easy, or did they?
