The effect is the important thing, how you achieve it is not.......

There are hundreds of 'printing' type packet effects. Daryl's is a fun easy one based on an earlier Duvivier idea but simplified, where comical 'mistakes' are printed. More suited to a formal 'one off' performance than table hopping, but then, not everyone is table hopping so it really makes no difference, a good trick is a good trick.
Other 'printing' type effects that immediately spring to mind are: Not Another Three Card Trick - Paul Hallas (in Small but Deadly and marketed) What It Isn't -Cameron Francis (marketed) Dazzled - Peter Duffie (marketed) Yikes - Peter Duffie (marketed) Pronto-Print! - Peter Duffie (marketed) Factory Misprints - J. C. Wagner (marketed and in The Commercial Magic of J. C. Wagner) Printing History - Phil Goldstein (Focus) Pressing On - Oliver Erens (Concertos for Pasteboard) Every one of those is good and that's just the tip of the iceburg... Paul. |

Paul, remember the Ron Frost printing-error packet trick from the 70's or 80's? I loved that one.

I think I mentioned that in "Small But Deadly", Tannen's sold it. But I never had it personally. The world was a smaller place in those days

I used to perform it and sold it when I worked at a magic shop back in the day. I liked that smaller world.

I believe at one time I had them all. Also I will add a plug here, Paul's book Small But Deadly is a real trip down packet trick memory lane, if you do not have it, get it. Rennie

Paul, thank you for mentioning "What It Isn't"
Peter Duffie's "Dazed!" has to be one of my favorite packet tricks of all time. Extremely magical. I'm also a big fan of his "Yikes!" effect. Aldo Colombini has a really nice one called "Sign Off" which I recently acquired. Here's the ad copy from his site: "A funny and unique two-card revelation routine. Two cards are selected from a deck. You show some blank cards and then try to print duplicates of the selected cards. First only one quarter of a card appears. Then two quarters of it, then three quarters and then you finally are successful and print the whole card. Next, four blank cards suddenly change into a giant duplicate of the selection! It comes with all the special cards (use any deck). $10.00" http://www.wildcolombini.com/cart/produc......s_id=166 It's a super fun trick.

Funny, when I lsted "Dazzled" above I actually meant "Dazed!" by Peter Duffie (though he did have one called Dazzled). Peter has released so many. Always worth a look on his web site. "Dazed!" is pretty quick and effective with a reasonable reset time.
Forgot about Aldo's "Sign Off', nice ideas. Novel revelations. Paul. |

I remember demoing an Emerson and West packet trick called Trans-Print. I think it ended with a king being "printed" on the wrong side of a card.
Do you remember this one Larry? Douglas M. |

When I started producing playing cards and packet tricks I produced a trick called "Druck Zuck" what is a word play and could be translated into "Fast print". As this routine is very close to Daryl´s version but avoids using Bicycle backs so that you can also use ANY other deck like Tally-Ho or Bee it was a nice alternative. It is only available with a german routine, I am not sure if I should translate it to english language, what do you think? Here is a demo video of it:
http://www.card-shark.de/Druck_Zuck.swf By the way: I love Small but Deadly, I did not realize that it is you, Paul, who have written it. Great work and very helpful for me. Christian

Joshua Jay's version is effectively Dominique Duvivier's. He just added the additional gaffs that showed that he could print on his wallet as well as hand.
