From the recent 'Geller issue' of Magische Welt. Nothing too unexpected in either interview.(Both in German)
Berglas: http://www.zem.demon.co.uk/mwberglas.htm Randi: http://www.zem.demon.co.uk/mwrandi.htm Competent translations (better than Babel fish) welcome. |

Here's a quick (and surely not completely accurate) translation of
the Berglas-text. (Please apologize my bad English.) Quote:

I'll second that thanks Chris. Your translation reads much better than Babel fish!

Always interesting to read Berglas on Geller.
No need to read Randi's thoughts because probably they are the same old BS from the envious old man. |

I have no objections against any of the claims made by Uri Geller, Not that I care one way or the other as it makes no odds to me but merely as a point of interest .... has not Uri Geller claimed to have made a lot of money in the past from using his abilities for various companies involved in mining and exploration industries? Maybe my memory is failing me but I'm sure I've heard him make such statements on television. If he's made such claims and they're porkie pies well then it's just a bit of showbiz BS which I think would be broadly considered mere theatrical license. But if, however, it's true and he has worked for mining companies for payment then the above quoted statement from Mr Berglas wouldn't ring so true. Neal.

There are still the occasional mentalists who maintain that their "powers" are genuine, but still only use them to entertain. Geller, as far as I know, has not been using his "skills" to pray on people in morning at least. This is when these types of things are actually doing something wrong. IMO at least. Not that I like the idea of using fraudulent claims of to make money, leaving it ambiguous in entertainment is different. Pushing people to try to influence their beliefs in the supernatural using trickery, not to much of a "right." However, not the biggest type of harm being done by people like this. Long story short, I do not agree with it, making these types of claims, but it is when people are praying o others using these claims that it is a problem for me. Mind you, "psychics" who "help" the police when looking for lost persons, that I find appalling simply because it is a waste of time, and can create false hopes in the families, just look at the history of that woman Montel always has on his show and her doing these types of things. But helping people look for oil or water, you are also wasting peoples time, but no where near the same kind of harm. It's still fraud mind you, but . . .

You have to admit Geller has some big balls! To play off his magic so convincingly as the real thing is very impressive. I couldn't do it.
