I'm after learning a very workable version of six-card repeat. The only presentation I can honestly say I *remember* seeing is that of Wayne Dobson years ago on the Royal Variety Show (in the UK) when I was a kid. Reading into it a little I think his was *probably* the Tommy Tucker presentation. It'll probably be a similar presentation / patter line that I'll follow.
What I don't (seem to) have (despite scouring a few likely sources in the library) is a clear method. I know a b*****e c***t can be used but I've no idea if that's the best that's out there. I'm not a big knuckle buster generally. I like stuff as easy as possible so I can focus on getting my wonderful personality across and entertaining the people. I've heard Billy McComb's technique is good - it's also available on DVD. Can anyone confirm for me that this is top notch as technique goes (and not something that'll cause me premature arthritis), also... ... has anyone seen either Billy McComb Greater Magic - Vol #30 (a DVD) or Six Card Repeat Greater Magic Teach In - Vol #12 (a DVD) and able to give any comments on the usefulness? £25(ish) to me is a fair few quid to me, but I'm happy to pay that if I come out of it with a solid and useable effect at the end of the day... Cheers in advance! |

I recommend this two methods: Steves Dacri have one in his No Filler DVD, and one of my heroes,Mr.Aldo Colombini have one combined with card to pocket and revealing of a selection that is VERY GOOD for close up situations.
Thanks, Hansel!

Cheers Hansel.
The close-up effect won't be any good for me in this situations but the Steve Dacri sounds interesting, not least because I saw him lecture a few years back and I know his stuff is workable. I spotted that he had a method available on DVD while scouring yesterday. Good to hear a recommendation on that one. What I would ask of his method is: is it going to present me with a tonne of work in terms of mastering counts etc. I've got stumpy fingers and almost no deterity. While I've got a moderately huge time frame to master this effect in, it'd be better for me if it's easy on the manipulation side of things. Also, further to yesterdays post, I found a method for six *bill* repeat in Mark Wilson's Course (forgot I had that). Looks like it could be readily applied to cards. (Uses g****d bills). Anyone tried that method and how did they get on? |

It was. It was often marketed that way. Paul. |

Not to pull too much away from the original question, but the best version of this trick, that I've seen, was done by Eugene Burger at his lecture. The patter was pretty macabre, quite a change from the usual tongue-in-cheek that's done. 13 at the Table, from Lee Earle's Life, Death & Other Card tricks.
I picked it up just for this trick. That's how much it affected me. |

It takes a little prep work, but the Sam Berland method is a neat and gives a real clean display (not a p****t c**d either) . Mostly, I just use the b***** c**** so you can perform impromptu. Both can be seen in the greater magic teach in. Actually, I believe both are in Tarbell, so you can read it and apply your own personality.
Great trick - but you really got to sell it with a solid presentation. |

Michael Finney has a very good presentation for this as well.
After much soul searching about a signature, I decided not to have one.

Heya guys, cheers for all this advice. Appreciated!
Last night I made up and experimented with some g****d c***s and they do seem very workable. I need to work out the 'distribution' of the cards and positioning etc but this seems very realistic as a method. Looks far cleaner than I'd hoped for. I did tweak the design of the p****t c***s slightly from the couple of illustrations I've seen so that (in what I've prepared) the one nearest the performer in each g*** has an elongated semi-circle cut from the middle of the right hand long edge. That's where my left thumb pushes cards off in standard counting, so seems the logical place to push off from in this effect. At some point soon I shall give it a go with some proper counting and routining and see how I get on. It looks like I shall be able to save my money DVD-wise at the present time as this method looks a 'go-er' but cheers to the members on here - the help has been invaluable. As a side note, usually I'd be all up for going for an impromptu method. Much prefer every-day effects and methods as a rule. In this instance however, the performance is everything and preparation / set-up is almost irrelevant. ;o) |

"elongated semi-circle cut from the middle of the right hand long edge.
That's where my left thumb pushes cards off in standard counting" That's a great idea Matthew. it seems like it would ensure keeping the transfer of cards from hand to hand nice and smooth!

The wonderful version by Clarke "The Senator" Crandall is on one of the Don Alan Magic Ranch DVD's or videotapes available from Stevens. I'm curious whether it is in print anywhere.
I also think this version would be great on the street come to think of it. Need good lines appropriate to your character. Randy Wakeman does a Marlo routine of this effect (different method) on one of his DVD's I think. I have to look at the Crandall version again. It could be that no one else could do it and have it be anything like as strong. Maybe no one else should attempt it, out of respect to Clark Crandall, my hero in magic. |

Juan Tamariz summary script is about a magician reunion where 100 magicians get together to have dinner, they eat "doves" and they have a good time, and there is a nice "maga" and they also have a good time.
Then he sees and old magician of around 140 years old doing a count 1,2,3,4,5,6 throwing 3 cards, give a little tap "golpecito" and he again count 1,2,3,4,5,6, so Tamariz asked the old magician if he is the the one that count 6 cards, throw 3 cards (he throws the 3 cards) give a little tap and count again 1,2,3,4,5,6, the old magician says, yes this is me the one that throw 3 cards (again he does that and so far 9 cards were throwed) and ends with 1,2,3,4,5,6. The old magician says, you can do it, so Tamariz do the count 1,2,3,4,5,6 throws 3 cards and forgets the tap, so when he counts he only has 3 cards, he asked to the old magician what went wrong and the old magician said you forgot the most important step, one person on the audience says "The Tap", and Tamariz asked him" ha, you were also there that night", so Tamariz now give many taps (golpecitos) and when he counts he has 10 cards. Hope it makes sense |
