Does anyone know of any routines or sources for moves to chop a cup using a pk ring?

I wish someone would write a routine based on these rings. I think they have great potential.

Wizard/Lint I'm stumped again.
I'm assuming y'all have a PK ring or
knowledge of them and you know how chop cups
work or you wouldn't have posted or answered.
There are chop cup routines out there already or
God forbid you come up with your own.
Do you really need a source for PK chop cup moves?
I'm seriously no master magic mind believe me and
I do a PK ring chop cup with a borrowed dollar bill
as a ball and a PK ring I made. Not blowing my own
horn just saying I'm cheap and use your mind. Trial
and error can be lots and lots of fun. You learn
stuff you can use later like what works now and what
might work somewhere else. Silver platter time is nice
and all but not always the way to go. Like I said I
am stumped. Please reply. I'm not the sharpest crayon
in the box and may be missing something here.

Get Christian Jedinat's Cups and Balls DVD. It's in German, but that doesn't matter, really. You will see what's going on.

Just experiment with it. How many moves do you really need to do a chop cup routine with what you are mentioning?

There are some great cups & balls ideas on the second DVD for the Ceseral Melting Point gimmick.

I agree with Bill - the Jedinat DVD is great for a whole variety of C&B presentations and the presentations and explanations are easily understandable even if you don't speak German.

Jerrine,
As a full time working pro I don't always have the time to sit for hours working out moves that may turn out not to work. So, why re-invent the wheel? If there was a source out there for what I'm looking for then I'm going to stand on the shoulders of giants.

Richard and Bill,
Thanks for the recommendations.

I would guess that with a PK ring and a paper cups you could develop a routine in a matter of maybe 20 minutes.

I should have clarified. I wish someone would write up a routine using a PK ring for a cups & balls routine, not a chop cup routine. I think a unique routine could be written up especially if you were to wear a ring on each hand. A combo routine couldn't be used since the gimmick would come and go with your hand.

Also, Ceseral Melting Point does have some great moves that could be used Edd.

Most of the chop cup style moves are really fairly obvious to a magician. The Jedinat DVD does not use a PK ring, per se, but uses another device that serves the same function.

Also, if you can find Art Emerson's "Omega Ring" notes, there is some material in there.

I'd start out with a basic Don Alan routine and go from there. You need to see how different things react together.

Wizard/Lint, thanks for the reply.
I'm thankful that as a F.T.W.P. I still have time to discover/play/invent/construct magic. I find it as much fun as performing and I really am cheap.
Sounds like the Christian Jedinat DVD is right up both y'alls alley.
Good fortune to you both! Smile

Another suggestion would be Nicholas Night's "Enigma" if he's still selling them. Since you want to use a ring, you don't necessarily need his gimmick, but the routine works with either one. Jerrine's improvised dollar bill routine probably comes very close to what Nicholas published, but if you want to buy the routine that would be one way to go.

I creat my own with PK R, ball and shopcup. so I use it everytime I can.
I creat it in 1 day and have a lemon final.
so in france a lot of magican want this routine.
to create on, you have to read a lote, watching DVDs and work, work, work.
and the first things : have some imagination !
look youtube for: ORIO (french busker), you 'll be inspired by his routine.

If anyone has a copy of Christian Jedinat's Cups and Balls DVD I would love to buy one state-side. Let me know!

Very true

performing chop cup with a pk ring is an interesting idea
there must be someone who published a 'WORKING COMMERCIAL' routine
I saw a performance on a frensh dvd named monsieur TIVOLI ^^ and it was good
but its not the routining iam looking for

I'm waiting for Lee Keebler to join in here.

Frankly, I think that a PK ring for this purpose is a perfectly horrid idea, because it necessitates holding your hand in an odd position OR having a second normal ring.

hey bill palmer
I'll have to desagree with you its not that bad
I just saw two complete routines from both Arthur Tivoli and Craig Petty
and IMHO they are very nice and natural despite the fact they are using a PKRing

Wouldn't it be more useful to explore the concept of using an exteral, removable m**n*t regardless of its form? Why limit this to a finger ring? If moves with a finger ring are "roo unnatural" then use another form of gimmick. The key should be gaffing a borrowed cup -- no?

Frankly, it is so easy to do a routine without any gaffes.

Agreed, Pete -- I remember when the "new cup" was shown at our magic club back in 1957. The reaction of the older members was that it was a sneaky way of getting around practicing. A couple duplicated the Chop Cup routine with no gaff for the benefit of us teenagers.
