Wow, Bravo Ms. Morgan. Well put. I can be as critical as anyone and when people say "It just drives off" it seems funny to me. Because regardless it just floated. I mean the best part is that in the middle of the effect that car is clearly floating and that's worth the whole act. Then its gone and to me the inside of that area just looks black, as if nothing can be there. Again, great job Tim its a neat effect, different than most I've seen.

I said I would go to ground but what the hell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
By the way I teach MATHS not English (my spelling etc is bad I agree), I went to OXFORD by the way! Think you need to get the car off the ground! You have a platform about 2 foot height on stage The car is driven on to the platform then a cloth is held up and the car is covered car etc etc! SO you can now all stone me !!!!!! ps I have had a lot of PMs from members agreeing with me (THANKS TO THEM!!! I fully undertand you don't want to upset the little BOYS CLUB) |

It could have been a bit more polite (LOL) but you are certainly entitled to have your say. Lets back this up a little for the sake of civility. When I referred to you as making back seat comments I was referring to a saying we have in North America where a person sitting in the back seat of a car who may not know the rules of the road offers driving advice to the person behind the wheel. He may say " Go faster" but the driver is already maxed at the speed limit. He may say" Turn left here" but the driver knows he can't because its a one way street. The driver knows his environment and may be doing a fine job but the back seat driver will never be happy because he doesn't understand the rules of the road. When you said you teach MATHS I laughed out loud because I thought you had misspelled such a simple word as MATH. Before I posted that you had made such a stupid mistake I thought to myself.." Maybe in the UK it is pronounced as MATHS and not MATH like in North America. My hunch was right. You do indeed spell it MATHS. With that in mind try to imagine who silly you'd think I was if I had mocked you for using the term. You'd think... " How can he judge me..he doesn't have his facts and is making an incorrect assumption." That is the case here... You offer ideas that I had thought out long ago when I was first asked to create the illusion. They and most others had to be dismissed for many reasons. Some for budget, some for safety and some to simply fit the working environment. I thought of having the vehicle drive off the runway and up on to a ramp months ago but the client said " No changes to the runway or ramp area." so that idea was out. My point is very simple (although long winded). After a month of consultation and " you can do this but you can't do this" ( from the client) I came up with this illusion that fit all their needs. Would I love to perform this under better conditions....YES... but in this business you take the conditions you have and adapt to them. This illusion is the result and the client is happy. I apologize if I was a bit snappy at you but it was frustrating the heck out of me that you had no idea what we had overcome and were so quick to judge. I assure you in this environment it could not have been better as every angle was thought out long ago and several others had to be beaten on site. Best, Tim |

I am confused to what to say. When being approched about and idea a customer wants and the conditions you have I believe the final outcome of what Ryan and Tim came up with are merr perfect. I see this a lot on the Café where we all get personal and start to attack eatch other. Lets all step back a bit and find the spelling errors I have made in the paragrah. Trust me with my spell check I found 5 total.
Well again keep up the good work and please guys we are all getting personal. Was it the full moon that we had the other day? I have shared this video with many lay man already and I have not received a bad reaction yet. They thought it was awesome. Cheers,

I apologize, Yes I'm not much of a word smith. BUT in the UK it is MATHS, YES I WENT TO OXFORD !!!!!!!!!!!!
You seem to be having a DIG at me and you are letting it get personal, YOU MADE THE POST NOT ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU WANTED opinions THE FACTS ..... Found this little gem on the net by the way. You can actully see the truck driving off AND the "z e" like action of the floating plus the "whatever" is not an a?h?a form being pulled out the back. This is also an audiences view. http://youtube.com/watch?v=HjuUwkqfbrA ENJOY |

He is a car buff an liked the effect so he came back a few days later and filmed the effect again from a different angle. He obviously liked the effect enough to post it on his own. The first video he shot is still up and can be found here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ilkWcv96oM0 I found both videos while doing a You Tube search. I asked him to remove the video because like you.. I saw something in it I didn't like. He had no problem with doing so. An onstage assistant didn't do his part as it should have been done (in that performance) and the effect was not up to par. Out of 40 performances they can't all be perfect. It's just part of the biz. I'm not quite sure what you mean about me getting personal. When you criticize the effect you have the right to do so. I also have the right to ask on what experience you base your opinions. In fact I'd think it is you who is letting it get personal based on the amount of capitals and exclamation points you use. LOL Show me where I am having a dig at you and I'll apologize since the first apology wasn't sufficient it seems. The MATHS example was not an attack on you. Read it again and you'll see how I was making the point of how wrong someone can be in an opinion if they don't have the facts. Best, Tim |

BP,
It seems that you are taking things very personal and acting childless. Step back and re-read Tims post. He apologize to you several post above. I am not here trying to down you but wondering why you keep going on after someone apologize to you. I mean you both apologize to each other and I commend you both for come to common grounds about the matter, but to still throw stones???? why? Cheers,

To be honest when I first saw the video for this illusion I was not totally blown away. I keep my comments to my self because I knew there was something missing that could explain the whole thing. In this video you will see the lead up to the effect witch explains the trucks odd position and its location on the stage. Its amazing how stepping back and taking in the whole thing gives you the best view of the art they are creating.

Thanks Guys,
When you see more detail of what is involved it starts to make more sense. Everything was designed, included or omitted for a reason. Its not your average staging environment and proved even trickery than we had planned for. I guess my point the entire time to BP and any others is they would have to see the actual available staging set up to really appreciate what can and can't be done within it. Best, Tim |

I want to through another one out to BP again if I can. I just heard from another Café member and confidant who suggested that I had attacked BP for his grammar and profession.
Yes I did make light of a grammar error and did apologize for that but I'm more concerned regards thought that I in anyway knocked the profession of teacher. When I used the phrase " an amateur who makes his living as a teacher" in regards to BP I was suggesting that maybe he doesn't have the experience in magic to understand why some things can't be done on some stages as we'd like them to be. I was in no way taking a crack at teachers although I can see how it could have been interpreted as that. Sorry if any took it that way. Outside of my parents I'd say it was my teachers throughout the years who were most supportive of any artistic or personal goals I had in life and I owe them for much of my success in life. I was very good friends with most of them and still keep in contact with a few all these year later. Maybe this is what BP meant when he said I was taking a dig at him but that was not the intent. Sorry for any misunderstanding. Thanks to that fellow Café Member who pointed this out to me. Best, Tim |

Great Stuff Tim!!! My hats off to you and Ryan on this one. This just goes to prove that anything is possible if you put your mind to it. One can create the effect in thier mind and then figure out the method after. An SUV floats... then disapears. The audience can't see where it went. That's all that's important here. The client got what they wanted and the audience was fooled and entertained. Enough said!! The mission was accomplished. The method is not important. Asrah or no Asrah, Old tricks, New Tricks Your tricks My tricks...WHO CARES. To quote Ken Weber in his highly acclaimed book "Maximum Entertainment" "EMBRACE THE CLASSICS AND BUILD ON THEM" that's what youve done here and youve done it well and working under most difficult circumstances I must say.
Very well done. Congratulations!! Paul Royter

I have mentioned in the begining of this post that I realy liked the effect! I showed the clip to my girlfriend who realy looks at magic from a laypersons point of view, and she is very critical and sometimes almost irritating, because she will always find something to say, well I showed her the above clip and she just said "Wow that was awesome, she could't believe it!" I just thought it was a good compliment from a very logical, layperson thinker!
One thing I keep thinking of, Would it not be possible to turn the truck around, so the front faces the audience and the dissappearance then happens in reverse mode? I am sure you have propobly already thought of that, but is there a reason that prevents you from doing that? |

Of course Tim is the best person to answer that, but having had the priviledge to see this thing evolve from literally the first rivet to a finished illusion I believe that both the stage and the flow of things prevented that. The cars were turned 180 degrees on a turntable and drove back the way the came so turning it again (without a turnatable) propably would have been too much of a hassle and had interrupted the flow.
