??? okay you kind of got through doing the moves - and even gave a "whew" at the end for having done so.
Where would you like to begin in discussing what might be explored or refined in that routine? Presentation, motivation, handling, tells, choice of sleights, pauses, accounting for the magic... It's your journey - where to boss?

Then you handle them, and again, then you put them into your right hand, then you toss them back into your left hand. What's up with all that? More to my point here - what do you want to accomplish from the audience's perspective? By way of counterexample, consider that one might accomplish that same end result directly from the start by dropping the coins singly from the right hand into the left and then proceed with the magic- so something must be motivating that additional handling - what would you like it to be?

This is my thinking on this. I tossed the coins on the table to show them that only three coins are being used then I pick them up with my left to show the spectators on my left the coins, then throw them into my right hand, but when I do this I throw them the same way I'm going to throw them in a minute useing the friction pass. my motovation for doing this is to show the spectators on my right the coins. then throw them back into the left doing the friction, it should look like how I threw them from my left to right. Maybe I'm just over thinking this.

Tim,
I like it a lot! This is a worker here buddy! I know one when I see one. Certainly not for magicians... but then again...Hey!!! We do it for laymen. For the opening phase... I would suggest simply handing the coins to the spectator and have him/her put the coins on your outstretched hand. You then direct the attention on the other hand a s a starting point... and explain that it will travel BACK to the place she placed the coins originally. Well.... that's not the patter of course but the idea. that's all.... The finall coin was nice. "almost got away" great line and great motivation to move that way. Perhaps move just a tad less to the otherside for the last coin. I would use this for work if you allow me. TIM's COINS ACROSS! rannie

For compare and contrast purposes, have a look at this routine and let's see where this discussion goes.

Nice go at it Tim, my friend...I liked it. Coins Across is such a nice genre of coin magic. Mostly because it invites everyone's interpretation of how to get the coins to go across. I included my version of doing this, KrazyKoinZ Across in my new offering. Like you, I was looking for other ways to make the magic happen and I think I found a few. Anyway, I like what you came up with here. These things can become as technical as you allow them to be or allow others to make them be for you. I say go with what comes out of you, as in most cases that's what others do in regards to their stuff. Your stuff is great man, just keep driving your own car on these things, it's a pretty good one to my eye.
Oh and JT, I love the way Al Schnieder does his coins across when using his patented pop-up move. That thing sorta bridges the gap perfectly in such an effect and is just beautiful to watch.

Well, I'll probably get piled on here, but . . .
I'm not a fan of the pop-up move with coins, especially with so many repeats. It seems artificial and move-y to me. Also the right hand fingers are very closed and claw-like. It screams out "concealment" to me. And . . . four coins doing the same thing in the same way gets boring. Where is the drama in this? I liked feher's better--yes the opening sequence could be cut down, but the variety of ways the coins travel had more inherent dramatic interest, and the pacing was quicker. In an effect like this where we know what is going to happen, there can be a lot of dead time--the audience's mind doesn't need to do any work anymore, unless we provide it with a purpose: either to keep up with the happenings, or provide another task for them--even if it's . . . watch very closely this time, because I'm doing it even slower this time . . . Probably any "story" premise here will overpower the simple effect (although I did like that faxing idea that Letterman suggested to Roth) Jack Shalom

I too also like when the coins go across in various creative ways and I like when the pace is a little faster. Schneider's pop-up move is still to me a really cute move. His very deliberate way of doing it I think overshadows how many times he uses the move, at least that's what the common consensus is on that part of his work in this genre. Tim's take on this is a good one and matches his style and to me works well. I actually like all of his stuff. Great stories and creativity in making the routines work in refreshing ways.

Thanks guys for the feedback, and support.
I watched Al's routine and its nice but I don't see the point of it. He does a coins across totally different then I did. So its hard to compare. You could say why does he display a coin in the center of his right hand just to put it on top of his left fist. Would'nt you just pick up the coin with the tips of your right fingers and place it on top of your left fist. Why the extra display ?????? What he does does'nt bug me I love that routine just trying to make a point. This trick is'nt for a formal show its one of those hey you do magic yes show me something ok do you have three coins then I would do it. The nice thing about this is that you don't have to have all the same coins they can be all different and different sizes. What ever the spectator has. My style is fast yes I agree but it works for me....... Thanks again Tim I'm still open for suggestions just wanted to let you guys know some of my thinking behind this.

Hi, feher
That's a very nice routine, direct, and fast. I like it a lot. and probably first phase was a bit "too much". I agree with Rannie's idea for the first phase. It's really great Cheers Andre

All this pat on the back stuff aside, you can now see why what really counts is to go out and perform a routine for folks and LISTEN to what they say and to NOTICE where they are looking etc.
