Hi, Im looking for some mental effects, or places where I can learn some that can be performed with a mem deck (generic or a specific one, doesn't matter).

I'm not talking about the simple kind of pick a card then 'read their mind' knowing the location type thing.

I was recently inspired after prchasing Ben Earl's Past Midnight and loved the mental stuff that utilises stacks on the third disc (ramjollock, 2 card transpo, LOVED mental voyage subtlety very versatile thought of card). I could also see how a stack would add to card to pocket and pseudo brainwave.

So basically effects like these that have a mental side to them utilising a memorised deck.

Thanks

Richard Osterlind has a fanatastic number of effects on his Mind Mysteries Vol 2 dvd which is entirely dedicated to his Break Through Card system. All the tricks on this dvd have a mental/mindreading presentation to them. The effects can also easily be adatped to a mem deck. His Break Through Card system is a thing a beauty, Chased stack on steriods.

I 2nd baobow's recommendation: I have begun to incorporate aspects of Osterlind's handling of the memdeck into my routine.

Simon Aronson has a mentalism effect "Past-Present-Future", from Simply Simon p153, which incorporates a fortune telling bit of cold reading.

And Juan Tamariz has several effects that are equally useful in this area, though I'm far less familiar with his items as I'm more an Aronson stack user.

Also I just found an interesting effect Magic vs. Mindreading from Article 19 on Dennis Loomis' website.
Thanks again for the great website Dennis.

Just curious Verifythisnow, what stack are you using or getting into?

If you're not familiar with it, check out Histed Heisted by Simon Aronson from his book Bound to Please. It's certainly one of the strongest mental effects you can do with a deck of cards. As many as ten spectators each just think of a card from a small packet, and you are able to correctly read all of their minds. For the finale you reveal that you have predicted one of the selections.

I'm just getting into Mnemonica, but thought I should check out what other stacks might be more suited to mentalism. So far most of the effects I've found can be performed with any mem deck so it may not matter in the end.

I'll definately be looking this up, I have heard it mentioned many times in terms of the best mem deck effects. Thanks.

Would also like to add the following mind reading effects for your consideration:-

Vernon Out of Sight/Out of Mind. Paul Wilson's take on it is very very good, I feel his ideas for the revelation is possibly stronger than the original. And Paul has added some great subtelties during the selection and determination process which are wonderful.

John Guastaferro's trick Clairvoyance. Very very strong. Leveraging a concept from Marlo and has added a great presentation.

The bonuses of these two effects is that they can be performed completely impromptu from a shuffled deck in use. For exmaple, you can slay ur audience with Ramjollock ( in which ur stack is destroyed) and then follow-up with one of the effects listed above. Just a thought.

I have been using Osterlind's card system for about 4 months. It takes some practice to learn the system, but it is amazing how affective it is. The short description is if you see the bottom card, you know the top card. People will usually flash the bottom of the deck when they handle it. It uses a standard deck and if handed out it is almost impossible to tell it is a set up desk. Well worth learning.

I think there is a frequently overlooked effect by Simon Aronson (see Aronson Approach): "Four Part Harmony", which I reworked a bit to my personal fittings. It's a gem! Jan

Barrie Richardson's Any Card at Any Number in his book Theatre of the Mind is one of my personal favourites.
