Hello guys, I saw this trick the other week, a stage magician took out a silk, held 2 corners and gave it a twirl, he then put his arms over a mic stand pulling the silk so it touched the stand, and with one hand either side of the stand slowly, (not in a flash) pulled the silk towards himself through the stand, no quick flicks of corners , it was a near miracle, (on a small scale) any ideas what its called? where I get it? how its done? (dont expect you to answer that last question, you never do!!)
hello everybody,,

The Penetrative Silk, Volume 4 of Tarbell or Volume 2 of Rice's Silk Encyclopedia, will show you one method of performing it. From your description, Volume 2 of Rice would give you a more likely method using a reel. If you have a bill snatcher, you can work out the moves until you get something more classy and silent.

In a pinch, you can even do this with the line pinned to a belt loop of your pants. (Old rodeo clowns don't have reels!)

Is not this one that works with a Reel?
Thanks,

Yes this trick is normally done with a reel. However, if you read the references listed and note Bob's post you will find that it can (and has) been done without a reel. First time I saw this trick; J.B. Bobo (of the coin book) performed it and did not use any mechanical device. His set-up was similar to what Bob mentioned. It was at a lecture on "what do you do it you case gets lost". He did it with a man's handkerchief and a length of dental floss (fooled us badly I might say!).
