I just bought John Carney"s "Carnicopia". It's great, but where should I start? What are your favorite routines or tricks to perform and why?

Start from the essay in the beginning, then learn the first trick, and second... in order.. they are all great.. but DO NOT learn his version of cylinder and coins.. it's completely horrible (actually Im just saying that so I can keep the routine for myself =) Hee hee

I think I have said it once on this forum but happy to say it again....his Chop Cup routine with a coffee mug, borrowed dollar bill and a lemon is one of the best impromtu routines of all time.
I have been out to dinner and strolled to the bar and asked the bartender for a lemon and gone back to the table to entertain my guests, or have borrowed a lemon from the bar while strolling at cocktail parties. Less than 1 minute of set-up is needed. Aside from that, I always thank him for his Coin and Cylinder routine. Michael |

You should read the routines yourself and decide what YOU think is good.

Just open the book anywere and study the rutine you happen to pick, you can not go wrong. The essey at the beginning is very good, too. There are great insights into the art of magic all over the book.

John's book is Brilliant!!! His take on misdirection is the very best! John has no equals!!! (In my opinion)

Sanverted is a great effect, as is his Rip off Reverse (triumph routine).
If you want something to practice then check out Halves in The Mist. I did not think this possible until I bought his Classic Carney video. All of the routines are good; it is dependant on your style. Owen |

John can everything in the book perform in a perfect way! His tapes are great but if you have to see him live! He is one of the greatest masters of magic!

Could not have said it better myself. To see the pieces performed live by John is to take the routines into a whole new dimention. The written word does not do this routines justice.
I saw John perform a few years ago at the International Magic Convention. It was one of my first really magical experiences. Great magic, Owen |

Even the spongeball routine is good.
That's where I started with spongeballs. I have not used it but there are mentalists that rave about his prediction effect as well. The one where the prediction is stapled shut etc.
