Apparently, this is not the "false alarm" of the other day. My local sports radio station announced it just a few minutes ago.
Happy trails, Brett.
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

If that SOB Ted Thompson chased Favre out of town, I say fire his *** TODAY! This is an outrage. If ANYONE up there was sending signals to the Favre camp that he was no longer wanted in GB, they need to go, and go now. There is NO ONE up there that has ANY business telling Favre he's not wanted in Green Bay. Someone better get to the bottom of this, and they better do it soon.

I heard on ESPN that if the Packers had picked up Randy Moss this year Favre would have committed to 2 or more years. I think it could be thompsons fault.

The were in the Champoinship game last year and they could have had 5 Randy Moss's on the field when Brett threw that last pass and it wouldn't have mattered. The recieving corp is a good one, we don't NEED Randy Moss. What bugs me, is Favres agant saying he wanted to play another year but the organization gave the impression that they didn't want him back. I heard rumblings of this during the season last year. If that's the case, I'll be furious.

Who's Ted Thompson?
Some of the rest of us aren't as familiar with some of the names surrounding the situation. If the Pack had 5 Randy Mosses on the field vs. the Giants, yes, the last pass wouldn't have mattered - they would have had the game well in hand by that time! :^)

Ted Thompson is the Executive Vice President, General Manager & Director of Football Operations.
Since the Packers don't have an "owner" in the traditional sense, Thompson pretty much runs the show. The have a President and CEO on the Admin side. But Thompson takes care of the football operations. Quote:

I think the problem was that they passed too much. The Packers recievers are good. Yeah it might be nice to have Moss, but the recievers were one of the strengths of the team, not a weakness.

I think this has a lot to do with the investment in Aaron Rodgers. Didn't he sign a large contract a couple of years ago?
If I had to guess, I would say that The Pack Management signed Rodgers thinking Favre would be retired by now and did not expect Favre to be as productive last year. Now they are in a tough situation because Favre is Favre and Rodgers (their future) is rotting on the bench. If in fact they gave Favre the impression that he is unwelcome its kind of unclassy after the career he's had. |

Favre was there EVERY Sunday, that's not going to happen again. Bottom line is, if Favre dosen't want to play anymore, then he shouldn't play. If he want's to play, he should have a spot on that team as long as he wants one. He had an outstanding season last year by any standard.

You don't get rid of the best QB in team and NFL history because you signed a backup. Rodgers played 1 good game in relief for favre and then got hurt in practice the next week. I think this has more to do with Favre feeling that the gm isn't willing to do whatever it takes to field a winner.
Now the Packers have to sign a free agent QB instead of concentrating on the other needs. They better sign a free agent or the Packer fans could be in for another long string of losing seasons. I was planning on going to 2 games this year, the tickets should be a little cheaper without Favre. |

I'm hoping that this dosen't end with bad blood or anything.
If Favre wants to end his career, that's fine with me. But I want it to be in a way where he, the fans, and the organization are happy with the decision. Favre is one, if not the most important player in the storied history of this franchise. I don't want him going out with anything other than good feelings about his time in Green Bay. If anyone up there did anything to sour his feelings about the Green Bay Packers, there will be hell to pay.

I know tickets from "sold out" games can usually be had from ticket agencies, or perhaps even from people outside the stadium, or other sources. Let's say I arrive in Green Bay on a Tuesday, and want to get tickets for a game of average appeal (i.e., not vs. the Bears). How easy/hard and expensive to get 2 tickets, on average?

You'd probably get them, depending on the game. There is a place where you can scalp tickets outside of the stadium. But there are always more people looking than selling.
You can usually find a few tickets on E-bay or Ticket King or something. It all depends on the game. I've been offered $350 for my seat on game day, that's the most I've ever been offered. Tickets were tough to get late in the season this year. I went to the Vikings game this year and people were telling me that was one of the hottest tickets in some time. It's not impossible, it's just harder than most places to get a ticket. Every seat is a season ticket. So the season ticket holder has to give it up for sale, either by selling it to a wholesaler or selling it themselves. There are no blocks of tickets available for gameday purchase or for brokers or anything like that.

Here's what we used to do; but it only works if you know what games you are going to. I always know what games I have cause of the season tickets. I'm in on the Gold Package so it's two games a year. AS SOON as(within minutes if possible) they release the schedule, find your games. Immedietly call the hotel chain, but don't call directly to Green Bay, call the 1-800 number. They don't know that the schedule has just been released, so they never have the inflated rates that the locals put in place for the games. A lot of people will be calling the hotels in GB directly and they might be busy. But if you call the national number you'll be booked in a couple of minutes. Then on game day, when you show up and check in they will say the room cost X dollars (alot more than the typical rate) but you stick to your guns and tell them the rate you were quoted on the 1-800 number. I've done that many times. Always got a room and never paid the "game day" rates. Although with Favre gone, rooms may be easier to come by in the upcoming years. There has never been a "Gold Package" game played in Lambeau without Favre. They were still playing two games a year in Milwakuee when he got there.

Thanks Vandy,
Problem is we NEVER know for sure IF we're going, it costs so much and we never know that far ahead of time if we can go. |

Vandy Grift Inner circle Milwaukee 3504 Posts |
That's the problem. You have to know very early on what game you are going to.
