I just purchased one of these little units and is it ever great! I've been looking for a battery operated PA system that I could use at either smaller parties or on those occasions where I happen to be street performing. I wanted good quality sound as well as amplification. It also needed to be able to play music and handle a wireless headset at the same time.
Well, the Fender Passport 10WE does all of this and more. It actually has a built in receiver for a wireless microphone. It also comes with the wireless transmitter as well as a lavalier mic and a headset mic. All of the microphone equipment is contained in a little carrying case (also included). The PA has a 10 watt output with a 5" speaker. The entire unit looks like one of those large flashlights, but it's much ligher (I would guess no more than 2 pounds). But even then, it comes with a shoulder strap that hides right in the PA itself when not in use. The unit also has an input jack and separate volume control for a wired microphone. It has a line in and a line out slot that's great for either plugging in your ipod or hooking up to a recording unit. And it has 12 different channels that it can automatically switch to for the UHF wireless mics. It takes 4 hours to completely charge the battery and that will last up to 8 hours of playing time. Replacement batteries are also available directly from Fender if you should ever need them (highly unlikely). This unit cost $499.00 and, considering the sound quality, and everything it comes with, I found it to be a good deal. Just thought I would share. Kent

I too like the P-10w and have used it for a couple years now, with the wireless headset. The only problem I have had was with pluging my iPod into the line-in jack. I was getting some popping noise sometimes. I bought an in-line volume control and it seem to fix it. Otherwise smooth sailing.

I purchased the Fender Passport after reading these posts and doing some other research. I have had it for about six weeks now and I am also very happy with it.
I use it for small music & puppet shows I do, using the wireless headset and plugging my iPod into it. There is also another 1/4" input that I use for my guitar when I'm playing solo shows. This covers everything I need... voice amplification, guitar amplification, and recorded music amplification. I also play music shows with some friends, and we have run a few wired mics and a guitar into a small mixer and then run the mixer output into the Passport. If the levels are set carefully, the Passport does a fine job even with that much running into it. I have only used it for smaller shows... no more than 85 people. But it does a great job even at a fraction of the highest volume, and I'm confident this would be effective amplification for much bigger crowds. I hadn't even considered how convenient the battery pack would be until the first time I set it up at a show and realized I didn't have to worry about outlets and extension cords and all that. I did a music show in a park this week and it was perfect! I used the wireless headset mic, plugged my guitar into the 1/4" jack and that was it... I was ready to jam! So far the only drawback to the battery power is that once I either forgot to shut it off or it accidentally got switched on when I was packing it away, and it remained on for several hours as I drove to my next gig, consequently running out of power in the middle of the show. But... that was MY fault, and it hasn't happened since. (Okay, it happened one more time, but... also my fault.) If you simply remember to TURN IT OFF when you're done, you will avoid this problem. Seems like that shouldn't be difficult to remember, but I guess I'm often distracted when I'm packing up after a show. Anyway, I had worked with a couple different PA systems before I bought the Fender Passport, and it makes my job soooo much easier. It's very small, very light, and very powerful. I love it! |

Hmm... my apologies Kipley.
I see that you noted this model number in your original posting. Are you an affiliate for Fender Copr? --just kidding, I read in your previous posting that you are not. lol Jonathan

Ha ha... no, not an affiliate!
The P-10WE UHF was actually more than I wanted to pay, but I ended up buying it because I got booked for a show that was too small for my big PA system (a Yamaha package), but definitely required amplification. It was just the push I needed because the P-10WE has been incredibly convenient. It's very compact, doesn't need cords, and the wireless headset mic has been great. The receiver is enclosed with the speaker unit so I just turn that on, turn on the mic, and within seconds it's ready to go. I haven't had any problems with interference either. This package also came with a lavaliere mic and wireless hand held mic, which gives me options. So far I've only used the headset, but I'll try them all eventually. Anyway... I had done a lot of big, outdoor shows that required a big PA, and a lot of small, classroom and party shows that didn't require any amplification. This PA allows me to do shows for bigger crowds in tight spaces without having to drag my big PA along, which makes a HUGE difference. I haven't had it long enough to call it a "workhorse", but I'm very happy so far. |

I just noticed this old post and wanted to follow up four years later. I am STILL using the same unit I bought four years ago and have never had a problem with it. (I did over 325 shows last year, so I'm definitely using it a lot.)
In fact I was so pleased with it, I bought a second one as an emergency backup, but have never had to use it yet. The one thing that I have had to replace was the headset microphone, but considering how much I use it, that's not surprising. And I didn't have to replace the transmitter, just the headset mic that plugs into it. At this point, I have definitely had it long enough to call it a workhorse! I use Jim Kleefeld's Sound Control to add music and sound effects to my shows, and this is a great little unit that tucks behind my "stage" (a trunk set on a keyboard stand). I bought an inexpensive collapsible mic stand that the P-10WE screws right on top of. This way, I can set it wherever it fits best and also change the height of the speaker. I perform exclusively for children and this wireless receiver/speaker is a lifesaver for those party shows where the parents just won't stop talking. It's been great for groups up to 150, and using the line out/line in jacks, I believe I can connect two of them together if ever I need extra volume. Anyway - I just wanted to follow up, I can't believe it's been four years since I started using it, but so far, the Fender Passport P10-WE has never let me down. |

Let me chime in on this one as well - I wound up with this device and both a lavalier/headset and a handmike for maximum adaptability. It can only wirelessly connect with one kind of microphone at a time, but it's nice to have the option.
It's also a great way to patch your own wireless mike into in-house systems - just carry around a set of adapters (8mm, 1/4" & XLR). I've done that on occasion. All that said, the rechargeable battery WILL run out at some point. For me, it was three & a half years after purchase. I replaced it, and it works great again. |
