Please only post does who say, and establish themselves as Psychics, not as mentalists, and that they have any psychic ability.

We need to know which ones are psychics.

Thanks

Out of curiosity, why do we need to know who the psychics are?

So we can crucify them.

Perhaps so that an honest person doesn't assist a dishonest person in their career of exploiting and harming the public.

It's magicians helping magicians - not magicians helping fraudsters.

John... my comment seems to have hit you pretty hard.

3 edits to your reply so far, and reproducing my statement in another thread where it doesn't belong.

I'm being extreme yes. But there's a lot of truth in the statement. Even 'good' psychics can do harm.

So. 1: Your knee-jerk reaction is that everyone who claims psychic functioning is a fraud, a scammer and dishonest.

or, more likely,

2: You love to bait these threads.

Both or either is further evidence that a separate thread for psychics could never work here on the Café. Brooks and the kids are not stupid. They don't need the distraction or the hassle this would cause.

And I would add even good skeptics can do harm. Not to mention the bad skeptics.

It's magicians helping magicians - not magicians policing mentalists.

If they are false claims, then they are a fraud and they are dishonest.

That is a matter of fact.

I didn't say they were all 'scammers' although technically that could be argued since a fraud could be said to be a scam. Still I think I understand what you mean, and I covered you're point already by indicating damage to audience AND the public, meaning indirect damage.

In this case I was the fish... I translated "out of curiosity" to "here's a big shiney hook" and like a fish I bit.

How do you figure that it's evidence that a psychics forum would never work?

I would have thought that it's evidence to support the working of such a forum. For starters I wouldn't be reading it to take the bait and get involved in yet another discussion on the same topic.

My family have read the Tarot and palm's for decades not once have we charged a penny, my aunt always said if you have a gift given freely then give freely of yourself, do I think I'm psychic, I have had experiences that I simply can't explain, one example was when my wife spoke to her father on the phone about her friend being killed in action, when she hung up I asked her what she said about her cousin David being in hospital, she asked me what I was on about, I swore she turned to me and said David is in hospital, this was 21.30ish on a Sat evening, the next morning we visited her mother and the first thing her mother said was David's in hospital, he was hit by a car around 2am this morning, any explanations would be most welcome, so back to the question, I don't really know what being psychic really is, sorry.

I think that we could all learn a lot from the "psychics"...

before you go discounting each and everyone as a fraudster or a scam artist...

Watch what they do, and learn from it.

Anecdotes, not generally considered proof of anything.

Anecdotal is considered useful though...

as in longitudinal studies where lab conditions can't and don't apply.

nothing wrong with anecdotal - it just is not statistical.

If your mom or dad or son or brother or sister or daughter, friend or client tells you the have had great success using the garage door opener - you don't tell them it is unproven and anecdotal... Smile

in actual science very little is considered proof... if anything at all. Frankly, I can't think of anything in science that claims it is proven for all time and space. IN science you have theories and accepted conclusions for the time and given the parameters of the test, or the conclusions of a meta analysis - until and when it is contradicted. And there are some "laws" which are held as though they have been proven.

now in math you may have proofs... and theroms...

but....

the issue is always confused when non-scientists discuss notions like proof

its like lay people discussing guilt or innocence and what the evidence proves or shows.

evidence does not show or prove anything --- it is always interpreted by at least two sides subject to some rules and then the outcome decided by a judge or jury regarding whose argument they more believed and why (under the set of rules) and an outcome declared - guilty or not guilty

since one can never be declared innocent.

because something reads " proven innocent until guilty" or "burden of proof " etc does not necessarily mean what the lay person expects it to mean - and has a legal meaning and a different application than we sometimes think. The legal definitions and the scientific definitions - in accurate usage can differ significantly from how most think they are to be used. oh well..

proof here among magicians is bandied around as though it is meaningful...

it is not

especially when you ask for proof or state that something is or isn't proven. the only thing unproven essentially

is everything!!!!

It could be that it is proven that ou do not exist...

you argue that you do

but that is only anecdotal eeidence for your reality.... hmmmmm Smile

enjoy
