Leonard has come up in several threads over the last few months
but always as a side bar, quote or metaphor. I felt it was time
he got his own thread.

With his themes of - Love, God, Loss, Friendship, Isolation, Health,
and Travel (actually I made the last two up), I know he has many fans
here and touches on many themes close to our hearts.

To kick off the thread here's an interesting article from our Sydney paper
on a collaboration between Philip Glass and Cohens work. http://tiny.cc/3xrRs

Hope you enjoy
Sincerely T. Hyde

With one hand on the hexagram and one hand on the girl
I balance on a wishing well that all men call the world.

Leonard seems to be big in Australia!

Go figure...Australia is the name of my signature effect.

And guess whose music plays in the background behind and all around a pin spotlight?

Hint:

A rose, you never used your thorns,
The ones you loved abandoned you,
Your angel face made hearts so warm,
You helped the sick but who helped you ?
Then rushing through the Paris night,
They hounded you, you lost control,
We prayed that you would be alright,
The news came through - Your body cold...

(Chorus) Good night, my sweet princess...

I always prefered the line from Chelsea Hotel

He's about to start a new tour too. Toronto first then Europe I believe. (Don't know if he's playing any more than just Toronto in Canada, but he'll probably play Montreal and/or Vancouver I'd guess.)

Hopefully if nothing else it'll get him some money back since his ex-manager stole his retirement fund (and a rights to some songs? Can't remember.)

How about this.

Two days ago, on March 10, 2008, Leonard Cohen was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The basic tool for the manipulation of reality is the manipulation of words. If you can control the meaning of words, you can control the people who must use the words.

There's a couple of hours of radio and TV interviews and features at the CBC site. I don't know if the archive is permanent, so you might want to check it out fairly quickly.

http://archives.cbc.ca/arts_entertainment/music/topic/93/

Enjoy.

John

A sip of wine, a cigarette,
And then it’s time to go.
I tidied up the kitchenette;
I tuned the old banjo.
I’m wanted at the traffic-jam.
They’re saving me a seat.
I’m what I am, and what I am,
Is back on Boogie Street.
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.--Yeats

John, thanks for that link, the interviews are excellent.

You quote "Boogie Street".

I'm sure all readers of this thread have been there metaphorically
but I wonder how many have been there actually??

I was lucky enough to visit in the late 70's
before the apparent inspiration to LC
was bulldozed and sanitised in a government crack down.

Confused - First check out this wiki page

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bugis_Street

(the LC connection is explained near the end)

and then this delicious youtube slide show from the 60's (?)
