Reality is Plastic - Impromptu Hypnosis OUT NOW
http://www.anthonyjacquin.com/products.html MSN: threeterrors@googlemail.com Just got this. Most hypnosis items are re-hashes with nothing really new and vast gaps in the total model. This one covers the it all. From suggestion to pseudo to covert and then some. Other works tend to cover one of the above 3 aspects. This one covers all three in a seamless, effortless and easy easy flow. There are many questions asked here about each of these 3 aspects and this book answers them all. Get it now for the real work TJ |

I think the book is great value. I don't think it is the only book you will ever need. This is my concern much worse than magicians wanting to be mentalists is magician and mentalists wanting to be hypnotists.
I fear this book will do more harm than good to the field of stage hypnosis. Hypnosis as an entertainment is much more than the ability to induce hypnosis. Part of powerful impactful stage hypnosis is in the presentation. The presentation is part of the illusion. There is nothing about the illusion in this book. It is a good book on inductions nothing more. Once the illusion is gone you have nothing left. This book will spawn a legion of incompetent hypnotists that will do more harm than good. |

I would like to ever so gently suggest that my good friend 'Mindpunisher' is being a little negative here.
Ok, of course I agree, and so I'm sure would Anthony Jacquin, that this is not the only book you will ever need. However, he never claimed that. Nor did he claim that it was about presentation or even entertainment (although I'm sure if pressed he would be more than capable of doing a book/DVD on that too). What he did claim was: 'If you do this certain thing in this certain way, and in the doing of it believe that it works, then... this will happen.' This book does exactly what it says on the cover. And I do believe it's one for everyone's shelf. I think that all good books which 'tell it like it is' potentially carry some form of danger if for no other reason than that of their honesty and clarity being laid bare, but I do not see how this can be helped, unless someone from somewhere knows who should be included in or excluded from its secrets. In other words who wears the black hat and who wears the white. I don't know the answer to that. Anyone else...? Many hypnosis books of the past have not been totally honest or clear, and have been more than a little too safe. With 'Reality is Plastic' there can be no mistakes. Bobser

Bobser where have I said anything negative about the book? Infact you will find I only say good things about the book.
Having been involved in the business of stage hypnosis for more than 20 years and seen all the fads come and go. What I am saying that the current wave of impromtu street style hypnosis is only bad for the art. You-tube and the examples at the end of the DVD only illustrate my point. As far as mistakes are convcerned there are plenty waiting to happen even with rigourous training. But that is another thread. Already its happening. Read one of Danny Doyle's recent threads. There are idiots trying to use these techniques on his audience after his shows. Need I say more? But again you probably think that's alright. |

I appreciate all of your feedback especially with regard to showmanship. You are correct the book does not tell you how to be a showman.
In another thread both Mindpunisher and Danny have made clear that they do not think hypnosis should be used off of the stage in any context other than therapy. As professional stage hypnotists I appreciate that standpoint but personally believe hypnosis should be encouraged off of the stage and would like to see hypnosis used in a wider variety of settings including slap bang in the middle of a mentalism effect. I think the real problem is its too cheap and to easily available. Which means you will get plenty of idiots getting their hands on it. And when something is available to almost anyone which the net has done these days - the value plummets.
Derren started making mixing hypnosis with mentalism popular with his tv shows. Why there so much interest in the handshake induction. Of course you don't actually need to hypnotise someone just appear to. I saw Kreskin as a kid on tv do it over 30 years ago. |

I printed 200 copies of this book. The vast majority of the 'idiots' that have purchased it contribute to the Magic Café Penny forum. I believe they as a whole will have the foresight to bring showmanship to it and deliver something of value.
Hypnotists had a fascination with the handshake induction long before Derren gave mentalists a fascination with it. Don't you like using it? Anthony

And me one of dem idjits who bot it - yep!
Oh, for those who don't think hypnosis should not be used off stage - I hope they mean deep trance - 99% of good mentalism has suggestion built into it anyway for making effects go from good to great... e.g. a coin warmin up in the hand before teh reveal of a bend - is that not a suggestion along the spectrum of "hypnosis".... Well, I look forward to getting this book - plus Anthony seems a great guy to deal with! Best regads, Bruce

Derren made the handshake induction widely popular as he has mentalism in general in our part of the world. Most of the people that buy books similar to yours have came in through that route rather than the Bandler route.
Personally I don't use it. Only because I don't have a need for it. Anyone that practices these techniques in the audience of another hypnotists show in my book is an idiot. A disrespectful one too. Dr spektor I am talking about deep trance classical stage routines. Its just a belief an opinion anyone is welcome to disagree with me. As if you needed my permission. |

I know I've been warned several times by those in power here in The Café (and I'm sure they were correct)for perhaps being a wee bit outspoken at times. But seriously Mindpunisher, you're getting real close to getting me thrown out of here permanantly.
I've got to assume you're not really that stupid to have made the statement you just made ("Anyone that practices these techniques in the audience of another hypnotist show in my book is an idiot. A disrespectful one too"). But rather you've actually got a great sense of humour?

Hi,
I think this book is fantastic!! Anthony has written the book in a clear and easy to understand format. The content is second to none (IMHO), it is direct (excuse the pun) and to the point (exactly what I wanted.) If you want to know how to hypnotise a colleague, friend or complete stranger in a bar or any social venue then this is the book for you. Anthony teaches a range OF very quick inductions that are perfect to use in a mentalism setting. I know Richard Osterlind has a DVD that shows him using very similar techniques in one of his effects!! I think this is a tool, that when used correctly can take your mentalism FROM a great trick to REAL MAGIC!! |

Thanks a lot Dazzzman,
glad to hear you have found some potential for use in your mentalism. More and more I am using bits of mentalism in place of the hypno bits in the Set Piece. IT gives me the same opportunity to achieve the goals of a set piece. This month I am releasing the first in a series of free Supplements to RIP owners, this one is aimed at mentalists. Should be with you in the next week. Reality is Plastic: Proper Mental Watch out for it. Anthony
