Hello,
For years I have performed for children the 'Coloring picture' (black and white picture becomes colorful, in my case - a picture of a witch). Lately I have thought of changing my routine - until now I did some type of - a witch going to the forest and losing all her.. (kids shout - colors) and we have to find them.. kids come up to stage, help color her.. everybody 'throws' colors at the picture.. doesn't color.. kids shout the magic words... at the end it fills with color. I find the climax to be very strong but the routine I used until now - well I got bored with it and I'm looking for a change. More importantly, I'm looking for a way to add f-u-n-n-y elements to the trick (there is barely no laughs in the way I present it now), and since this is usually the last routine I perform in a childrens show - I have already used up all of the wands\hats\glasses etc. gags. Also, I think the best will be to have funny jokes or gags that are b-l-e-n-d into the routine itself. Any ideas anyone? |

For a slightly different approach, you might try one I've been eyeing (but did not yet purchase . . .)

You may get some additional ideas from Jim Gerrish's "Portrait of Grandma" article in The Wizards' Journal #9 on my site. Here is a description of the effect: http://www.magicnook.com/WizJour09/wj0909.htm
I like the way he explains the plain uncolored picture by telling the kids that everything was in black and white in the old days, as well as other elements of his routine. Since you make it yourself, the "portrait" used can be a witch or anything else you can dream up.
