Jeff Hobson is doing part 2 of his Hobson's choice lecture in about 10 minutes. Part one had some AWESOME kid stuff in it! including a fantastic ribbons through body.
if you missed part one it is still available as a rebroadcast and a downloadable podcast. The lecture network has been a pretty great resource for me. Any other members here? I am a member. I like it, but seem to have consistent connection issues and they don't respond to requests for help. I understand that they are still figuring everything out...
I do agree that the podcasts are great and when I can connect, I love it. I just wish they could solve the connection issues I am experiencing and had better customer service. Michael |

Hi Michael,
For 10 years I was a computer network engineer. If you are experiencing connectivity issues, the problem may be with your throughput on your end. When I first joined I had a DSL connection through my ISP. My connectivity to the lecture network was awful. I got on the horn with my ISP and they tweaked and poked and upped my throughput so that it ran a bit better. It would still hang up from time to time as I was at the end of the leg and they could only make it so good. I switched to cable and all my problems went away. if you are not getting 10mps minimum (between 50 and 100 is even better!)you are going to have connectivity issues with the site. Picture will freze, you need to keep clicking the screen because it will auto pause, things like that. Streaming video is a bandwidth hog. The choices are speed, quality, and price, and you can pick any two. For what I am getting, and what I know it must be costing them, I am VERY happy to do what I can on my end to make my experience better. Streaming on demand videos from Netflix and many other places have the same problems (if not worse!) than the lecture network. To be honest, as a full time performer myself, I don't know how the heck Mr. Hobson and company find the time to put all this great stuff together! I do understand how frustrating the issues are as a subscriber, most people are not aware that sometimes the problem may be on their end. Best, Dan- "MT is one of the reasons we started this board! Just an FYI, I have been a member since Jeff started TLN and I am a very Happy Camper with TLN. I had some issues in the past and they are now fixed. And I just cannot say enough GOOD about TLN. It is a great source for those of us who DO NOT live close to IBM or SAM Meetings.

I like the Podcasts, as I have had issues in the past with the streaming video. I haven't been able to make many of the live lectures recently so I will have to see if my issues have been fixed (on my end and theirs).
Question... does one know how long it takes them to get up the new lectures to Podcast or to just replay them via the website? Thanks! RevJohn |

They had some bugs with that too but those seem to have cleared up as well. You are so right about the podcasts being helpful if you have a slower connection. I know when I first joined the best way for me to view was to wait till the podcasts came up and download them to my computer. Some folks may not be aware of this but you do not need an ipod or an iphone to view podcasts. Just install itunes (it's free!) and download them to your computer and watch with quick time. I was watching Charlie Frye's lecture again that way yesterday morning. It's really a great way to catch lectures. I'm usually working weekends and don't get many chances to go to conventions or live lectures as they are usually held during my prime time. For me this has been a fantastic alternative! The recent Hobson's Choice lecture was FANTASTIC!! Best, Dan- "MT is one of the reasons we started this board! I was recently told about this, and although I don't come here often I have caught a few of these lectures and LOVE THEM! I also work full time and this is an outstanding way to learn really valuable information.
Thanks Mr. Hustle for your work on this! I had to sign up to tell you in person. Keep up the great work. Mike |

Thanks for the kind words Michael!
I don't have connection to the network other than being a subscriber and a huge fan and supporter. Best, Dan- "MT is one of the reasons we started this board! Thanks for the info. I will pursue more help from my ISP. My problems are that I cannot even connect to the site at times... before I even try to stream video. I can stream video from Netflix, YouTube, and the network sites, so I don't think it has much to do with my bandwidth. My computer can't even find the front page for The Lecture Network. I will try getting help on my end.
I am still frustrated that I never got a response to my e-mail to them requesting assistance. I understand that they are busy. So are most of us. I also understand that folks here are friends and fans of the guys running the site. I met Jeff at MagicLIVE and I think he was absolutely wonderful. One of the nicest guys I met there! I'm not frustrated with any of the people connected to the site. I just want to be able to take advantage of the awesome resource that is... The Lecture Network I hope my honest feedback is appreciated! Michael |

Try updating your flash player as well as downloading the latest quicktime.
Let me know if that helps. Really, I'll check this thread and if I can help you out I will. The fact that you can see Youtube and Netflix videos without a pause or a stutter is a good thing. It may just be your flash package. Flash player here: flashplayer quicktime here: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/ Last question, are you running a Mac or a PC? The Flash Player that you linked to is one that you must pay for. You can get Adobe Flash Player through Adobe.com without having to pay anything.

Hi Michael,
I just wanted to check in and see if the flash update helped. Best, Dan- "MT is one of the reasons we started this board! I’m so sick of posts being deleted without any reason given, and by unknown people at that." - Steve Brooks Sep 7, 2001 8:38pm ©1999-2014 Daniel Denney all rights reserved. |

Thanks Dan... It didn't help and they have not responded to my e-mails for almost three weeks. I am extremely frustrated with The Lecture Network...

Does anybody have any idea how many members they have now at TLN?
As a member I do hope they make a success of this. By being a member you are making an investment in this project and your dividends is continued lectures. But not responding to emails has nothing to do with local connections or other computer components it is about quality service. |
