Time for some brainstorming gentlmen.
What magic-based extras would you include in a jacket if you could do whatever you wanted? Example: "I work with balloons, so I'd like a spot to hold my pump" "I can't seem to find a good spot for my personal items while I work - It would be cool to have a hidden pocket for that." I need some concepts guys, so hit me with all you've got.

Actually I came up with a neat little idea for my personal items when I'm strolling.
Make a bag 6inch wide by 6inch deep and affix velcro at the top to close it. Put 2 elastic bands on the outside of the bag and slide your belt through them. The bag should currently be draped over your back left pocket, with the elastic loops held by your belt. Insert anything you want it to hold. Mine can hold a cell phone, small wallet, and keys. Now flip the entire thing into your waistband. It should now be completely hidden excluding the 2 elastic bands holding it to your belt.

Not sure if I would add much, but I would love to find a way to make it look less bulky for strolling purposes, i.e., maybe some stronger material around the pockets around the neck down my back could be a strip of weighted material; however I would like all of this to be done without adding much weight to my jacket. Maybe also a small reinforced loop for attaching my pull to, I know it's not much but it saddens me slightly putting holes (although small) into my jacket. Like your idea for the personal items...nice touch. luke

P.s. Perhaps I would have a small pocket on the inside of my jacket with material made, indexes for gaff, cards/packet, tricks/different coins, or perhaps for mentalism purposes. Hope I haven't exposed too much

Ok gentleman small post but I’ve thought about it and a built in topit would be good also a small pocket within my outside right pocket so I could quickly don my thumb tip without too much hassle maybe also no snags in sleeves just plain sailing for anything needs to be sleeved or fall down my sleeve. perhaps a long thin tube on the inside of my jacket for my magic wand that would also be helpful

I'm in the middle of writing a booklet about close-up and strolling magic. Most of the booklet will be devoted to talking about pocket management and hiding your stuff.
Next week I'll add an item to my store on ebay to help with the woes of managing a Thumb tip.

I've found that the more stuff I get into my jacket the more I look like I'm overloaded. A close friend said I'd put on weight.
I'm going to have to get my mom to adapt a larger size jacket so it fits better WITH ALL OF THE PROPS INSIDE. Not just me. I seemed to gain 4" around my chest and waist. I do like the idea of having silks hanging down inside the jacket so I don't have to keep going back to my chest or table. Maybe from little pieces of elastic, so I can pull them out.

In addition to the topit, it should have the little sleeve pockets JSB has. Also, it should be custom tailored so the sleeves are big enough for birdcages, silks, and whatever else might be pulled up. The cuffs of the sleeves have to be rigid enough for pulls too. Additionally, I think that the vest Tommy Wonder uses should be made to be infused with the jacket. Lastly, I'd like secure ringlets to attach clips and loads to. I can't count how many times I've grabbed my load and found myself with the clip and the pin coming along with it. And one last thing: it should have lights in it so when you're in the dark it glitters, haha.

Thank you John, for that display of how to avoid being taken seriously anytime soon.

I've seen Rocco lecture a couple of times, and he points out specifically that because of the cuts of the sleeves, collar and the quality of the lining (he showed us many a burn mark) even despite the price, he wears Armani suits. Now I'm not Rocco, and I also can't afford Armani, but just another perspective...

Dustin, What's with the 6 x 6" bag INSIDE your trousers? I always empty all my non-essential items into my car before the gig, and put the car keys with the management. This beats having a big lump in the back, and of course, sitting on your cell phone ... On occasion, I stick the car keys in my utility sock - the other sock holds a tin with all the stuff for card on ceiling. Keeps it at the right temperature,

- a cigarette pull in the jacket and in the sleeve
- a silk pull on the other side of the jacket - a topit (a magnetic one like celini) - 2 or 3 lit match producers under each side of the lapel - a lapel flower on a built in reel or better yet, a rose to silk on the reel - a pocket square on another built in reel that would pull it back into the pocket - an itr built in on the opposite side of the lapel flower - 3 interior pockets per jacket side 2 of which could be accessed from the front pockets - sleeve pockets with little snaps to keep things in - the lining split along the bottom for cigarette, ball, card, etc. droppers - a full shot glass production on one side of the jacket and a glass of wine production on the other side - a bat sewn into one sleeve - a couple of dove pockets for good measure - and all the pockets would be flame retardant |

A water proof outer side coat pocket. Just reach in for a goldish so no need for special gimmicks.

All I need is a good stiff chest pocket and 2 stiff front hand pockets for some ditches.
Reckon it'd be alright if the top seam of the pockets had a bit of medium soft wire to help it stay open slightly.

Pockets within pockets. For example, many coats have a "coin" pocket within the jacket pocket. I would expand on this to have "several" sub-pockets to keep things organized. For example: different coins or coin sets in differenct sub-pockets, paddle tricks, card packets, etc. "Tunnel" between upper outside pocket to lower outside pocket so a coin secretly ditched into the breast pocket can "appear" in the lower jacket pocket. (ala Bobo Coin Magic) "Special" pocket for card to wallet wallets. Design to hold wallet snug and depth set to keep loading area "above" the pocket |

Piping on the jacket lining, especially on the shoulders and under the arms, to allow sweat to evaporate. My suits wear out from dry cleaning, more than anything else. It's hard to find a decent dry cleaner, too. The last good one, in my area, retired a few years ago.

How much crap are you guys carrying to walkaround gigs? Are you doing hour long sets at each table or something?
If all my stuff doesn't fit into my two outer jacket pockets, two inner jacket pockets and/or two side pants pockets, it ain't coming to the show. My car keys live in one of my pant back pockets. My wallet stays in the car. |
