Big DOG? Looks and sounds more like a big FLY!
(Day XIX)
Make America Great Again! - Trump in 2020 ... "We're a capitalistic society. I go into business, I don't make it, I go bankrupt. They're not going to bail me out. I've been on welfare and food stamps. Did anyone help me? No." - Craig T. Nelson, actor.

Now that's really creepy! The thing looks very nightmarish. Even creepier when it almost falls down and corrects its balance like a real animal. And the sound just adds to it.

At 1:00 I thought that thing was going to lift it's leg and pee on that tree! LOL!

It really amazes me how far robotics has come. I was impressed when I first saw asimo! After all, just getting a robot to walk on two legs is quite a feat. Something we do so easily and take for granted is really quite hard to do!

Actually, robots have been in use as military weapons since WWII. (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goliath_tracked_mine )
...And now they have un-manned machine gun robots that operate remotely. (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foster-Miller_TALON ) It's only a matter of time before they are put on patrol with artificial intelligence on their own without the control of a human operator. Scary stuff! Lyndel |

That seemed too unrobotic in a lot of it's movements (like when it slipped on the ice, was pushed by that guy).

And look at how natural the moves seem to be on this robot:

Terminator is actually based, in part, on two Outer Limit episodes written by Harlan Ellison: "Demon with a Glass Hand" starring Robert Culp and "Soldier" with Lloyd Nolan and Michael Ansara.
Ellison actually had to take James Cameron to court to get credit for his contribution to the movie. Now it has a the following statement in the end-credits: "Acknowledgment to the works of Harlan Ellison." Luckily, Cameron and Ellison managed to settle the matter out-of-court. As for the Terminator being fiction or future, I think it is a distinct possibility, but the technology, especially the AI, has a long way to go. I can't wait for the day that they actually can create a machine that can pass the Turing Test while standing in front of a real human being. No, this isn't exactly the test as conceived by Turing, but consider the possiblity of a robot or android so advanced that you can't distinguish it from a real person with both of them standing right in front of you! That would be the Turing Test on crack!
