I just received the Daniel Garcia Shade DVD, and I was happy with his visual demonstration.
Normally I shy away from DG DVDs because he tends to talk too much which is bad for my deaf ears, always makes me fall asleep. Shade kept me awake because there was enough visual demonstration to keep me interested. Since I just watch this DVD, I don't have the coins yet, and I don't know what kind of coins that DG was using. I am planning to get the new Kennedy coins and wonder if this will work well with Shade? DG if you are reading this, when are you ever going to include Subtitles or Closed-Captioning? There are Magic DVDs that include PDF files that Script everything, so this helps out as well. Rannie Raymondo even sent me a script to his Mini-cups routine, and now I enjoy his routine to the fullest. Please take the extra step to include these things. Can anyone out there please send me a script of Shade and please tell me what kind of coins DG was using. Many Thanks Keith |

I hope that the producers of these DVDs read this thread and realize that some people could really benefit from something like that. BTW I don't have shade so I can't help you out on that front. I just had to tell you what I thought about your idea. Hopefully someone can tell you what you need to know. Tim

The effects on the DVD and lecture notes are far beyond your abilities. (They require mastery of the mechanic's grip.) It would only break your heart. Sincerely, Darwin Ortiz.......(This post has got to be in my top 5.) |

Shade will work with just about any type of coin, quarters, any half, and if your hands are big enough dollars. The great thing about shade is that you can come up with your own routine with the moves as well as use his moves.
Wow, I never thought about closed caption for dvd's, not sure but don't some dvd players have that option? I know I had one that did. I think that you are right about including a script or something, however not sure if it is cost effective, after all this is a business as well. Tell you what, if I ever put out a product I will personally send you a copy of the script. Great idea and some really good thinking behind the future of dvd's in magic. Sickmagic! |

Subtitles can be turned-on or off by just about any kind of player such as TV, DVD player, or computer. Closed-Captioning it limited to TVs with built in decoders and there are some computers that work with Closed-Captioning. With PDF, you would need a computer to open those files. In other countries outside the USA Closed-Captioning would probably not work, because they don't have something like the "American Disability Act", so their appliances would not have built in decoders. I would go with Subtitles since it works with any appliances in any country.
Is it cost effective? Andy comic has subtitles on his Ball & Vase DVD, and I ask him why he did that, and he said it was there to help the Asians to translate. This shows that Andy Comic took an extra step to get more people to buy his product by reaching out to those in other countries. Sounds to me like a good way to make more money on his DVDs, so what do you think of that? I just wish the people in those countries would tell us Americans how helpful Subtitles can be. All they would need to do is speak up here on the Café' requesting more Subtitles. I have "An Introduction to The Shell Game" Vol. 1 from The School for Scoundrels and they provide PDF files in their DVD. Have you ever heard of people saying that it is better to read than to watch DVDs? Well, with this DVD you have both options, reading and watching. I know for sure I learned by watching their movements on DVD, but I also learned a lot from reading the PDF files. Therefore, this DVD has taught more than any other Magical DVD that I have ever paid for. I am going to use my Presidental Coins with Shade and see how that works. There is one movement that DG does that might require a certain size coin, I really don't know yet because I have been so busy lately with other things. Thanks for all the support Keith |

Well I hope that someone takes the first step and decides to try putting in subtitles. I can't imagine how many people have a problem like this. Heck even just a printed transcript available upon request would be better than nothing.
This is one of the reasons the café is a great place. Maybe if enough people post about this we can get somebody's attention. Tim

This is the first time I saw the vid of this, and I think it would have been a bit more magical if he didn't do it so darn fast! Does Daniel also do it with such blinding speed?
But the last move killed me!
The difficult must become easy, the easy beautiful and the beautiful magical.

Actually you don't have to do it with that speed, as far as I can remember DG did not mention that you have to do it that fast, although in the DVD (except the coins production in Siver Choi video), there is a clip DG perform it with about the same speed.

I think slowing it down a tad would emphasize the magic..it's a effect, not a marathon!
