And for my own personal interest - I noticed I have a few movies about magicians:
Even Money The Prestige The Illusionist The Magician Smokin Aces of course the Harry Potter and Lord of the Ring movies.... But I want to see if we can name and make a list of all the movies that show a magician or someone doing a magic trick....I remember a movie that had Al Pacino doing a newspaper tear I think... I just watched 'Next' with Nicolas Cage so add that to the list.... What other ones can you ad? have fun! Norden |

That one where Snape played a cello and some woman snivelled a lot. Sort of a crappy UK version of Ghost, it was.

George,
It's "Truly, Madly, Deeply" and it's far superior to Ghost. Anyway, Billy McComb is in "Lord of Illusion". He is the high point in this piece of tripe. Mark

The Mad Magician (1954) played by Vincent Price. The plot goes something like this - It's about the turn-of-the- century illusion expert Don Gallico that creates elaborate tricks for well-known magicians. He plans to open a show of his own using an elaborate buzz-saw trick which will appear to cut off the head of his assistant. Gallico's employer at Illusion, Inc., shuts down the show before it begins. Gallico protests that he developed the new trick on his own time, but Ormond says that according to their contract of employment, he owns anything Gallico creates.

There was a series of Japanese films about a detective named Akechi Kogoro. His nemesis is a criminal who sometimes uses stage magic. I remember one film where that villain was performing Cups and Balls. The criminal is known as the Man of Many Faces, as he is a master of disguise. These films feature the actor SHIGERU AMACHI as Akechi Kogoro. I remember seeing those films being sold at the site Yesasia several years ago but I don't know whether they still sell them or not. As for myself, I saw those films on television during the 1970s. Recently, though, a New version has been made, in which the Akechi role has been taken over by actor TAMURA MASAKAZU who is mostly famous for his other role of NEMURI KYOSHIRO the Full-Moon Cut Swordsman. Incidentally, the Akechi series is based on the books written by EDOGAWA RAMPO, by far the most famous mystery writer from Japan.

I seem to remember a truly awful b-movie from 1960 I think called "The Hypnotic Eye". It was a detective flick and the magician/hypnotist was the villain.
