Very cool. It sounds like they're got some pretty out of the box material in the works.
I wonder what they'll use, method-wise, for this tornado coming from his mouth. I would venture a guess that he'll misdirect the audience somehow and chug a 2 liter of coke for the belch of the century. I guess only those involved with the show know for sure at this point... Seriously though, I will be going to check the show out.

Yep, the tornado is what I am thinking about as well (methodology that is). Of course we must keep the power of words in mind-Tornado from mouth produces a certain mental image and the actual execution might not be as literal. Interesting to see what it actually will be!

I think Criss is a good magician. He's full of cr**, but very talented. I will definitely catch his new show in Vegas.

I really like the part where he said he "struggled" by on $30,000 a year.
Give me a break!!!!! |

Criss is a good man.
We need to celebrate his success and not put him down. Keep all negative comments to yourselves. You all know who you are.. |

I think it is going to be over the top and more like a production show than a magic show...

I'm not trying to anger or insult anyone here, but when Chris says he struggled making $30k a year he is dead serious. Keep in mind that as a full time professional, you are responsible for paying all your normal bills, plus reinvesting in your show (ever buy a new feature illusion?), all your own advertising, theater rental, paying staff, etc....etc....etc... Unlike working a "real" job for a company that takes care of all this for you. I and many of my friends make more than this, and we all still struggle from time to time. And any number of full timers on this forum would agree with me. Being a full time performer isn't always a blessing.

Has anyone ever pointed out that the "Prestigious Merlin Award" looks nothing like Merlin?

The real illusion here is using clowns and high tech choreographed show to misdirect people away from the fact that Angel has no talent in magic! The clowns will do all the work, he will get all the credit!
I personally wont be fooled into paying a dime to see this show. |

How can you make a judgement based on zero facts?? Maybe the rest of the show will be so good that Criss is irrelevant. You remind me of all the Kentucky fundamentalists condemning the movie "Passion of the Christ", when none of them had even seen it. J |

I'm going to make a statement here that I believe to be true. It may not be popular, but it is MY belief. I am not a big fan of Chris' Mindfreak show for the same reasons that many of you aren't. However.... I believe he is talented. His live show (from what I have been told) was very good and we all know that he is very creative (much more so than many others in our art). Unfortunately he resorted to more video effects than George Lucas which makes MAGICIANS think he has no talent.
I think he had to do this because (and I really hate to say this) I think that traditional magic isn't strong enough right now to compete with video games, movies and other forms of incredible stimulation that young people get these days. "Normal" magic just wouldn't hold the attention of audiences week after week for multiple seasons. Why do you think no one else has been successful doing this? Plain and simple... If Chris hadn't done it "his" way, he wouldn't be where he is today. His dream was to make it big and he achieved his dream. Whether or not WE like the way he did it is (I'm sure) of little importance to him. As always.... Just my random thoughts. Mad Jack |

Mad Jack is right on the money about struggling performers. I'm a full-time pro and it can be feast or famine. The expenses of running your own company can be overwhelming especially with the price of gas these days.
I remember Criss Angel on Larry King's show saying he was happier back when he was making so little. I know exactly where he's coming from ... Steve P.S. It's spelled "Criss" like Peter Criss of KISS. After all that's where that came from. Peter was the original drummer back in the 70's, when I first became a young member of the KISS Army. |

Bravo Mad Jack, Bravo!! I couldn't say it better than Jack did in both of his posts.
Criss has no talent?? The talent of magic is creating illusion in the eyes of the intended audience. Criss is a master of that, like him or not. Its funny how we judge our form of lying to be superior to another's form of lying. Was Houdini a good magician? Most hugely popular magicians don't have FISM level chops, yet these are all the magicians that inspired us to become magicians. The commercial world is not some magic club meeting above some crappy diner, where your merit is based on the quietness of your pass. |

Does anyone here actually belong to the International Magicians Society? I visited the website and it says it has over 37,000 members. Where are all it's members? And why such a cheap website for a society that's supposed to be the World's Largest Magic Society as recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records? Can't they afford a web designer?
Actually, I can't even find anything about them on the Guinness Book of World Records online website. Come to think of it Magic Café' has 34,688 members, shouldn't Magic Café' be listed in there as well as the largest Magician's Online Forum? Posted: Apr 9, 2008 10:55pm Just found out that it costs $50.00 for a lifetime membership with IMS. They were founded in 1968. How many of these members are even still alive, or even active members today? Heck, they don't even have a magazine.
