Hie hope you can offer your opinions on this ,
When you go up on stage after being introduced , what do you say ? Do you briefly explain what you do , or straight away go into your 1st routine ? -David

I have some nice music playing and tell the audience that " You don't have to turn your cellphones off, but if you could just tune them... that would be great..."
... Then I start doing my balloons animals and razor blade routine... Family fun for everyone... at Red Light Magic

After the introduction, the first thing you should do is say Hello and give the audience a chance to get to know who you are as a person. They need to tune into you, so to speak. There are as many ways as there are performers to accomplish that. Generally speaking, be likeable and incorporate humour into whatever you say - it is the best icebreaker.

For stage I have some music playing before I get on stage. I normally am introduced by the MC. Once on stage I do my first effect with no words at all. After my first effect I introduce myself and what they are about to see.
Music - EMERSON LAKE AND PALMER -Welcome Back to our old friends and fans! Edited with the first keyboard solo in the beginning taken out. First effect – Spoon bending. Fade out music Bring stage lights up. Introductions / move on to show form. In the first 10 sec you need to capture their attention. The music helps do that and gets everyone amped up. The first effect is a classic so they know what I am going to do and understand it’s going to be paranormal. I have everything scripted out and I tell the MC when to introduce me and how. I hope this helps, feel free to PM me your intro script and I will see if I can help you more.
No one said it would be easy, or did they?

Yeah ROMY , I do remember . haha , and your way is definitely unique .
As for me ,The MC announces me from the introduction I gave him , my composed MUSIC plays on and I take center stage with my props all being set up already . I then stand in the center of stage saying nothing at all till I get everyone's attention . I then say ` Good evening and welcome to ..... , my name is David Lai ... 'and I give a very brief intro on what I do ' . It has worked well for me , but I'm just wondering whether or not should I straight away start into a routine , then after the 1st routine , give a brief intro on what I do .

If you go straight away start into a routine, then its all about the routine....NOT about YOU......I thin the Audience should get to know who you really are!
but that just me....and.... you will never know until you try it many times which one will work best for you...... oh.....shouldn't ypur props being set up BEFORE the MC annaounce your name and BEFORE your Compose Music is palying???.....it is much better theatere this way....so after your big bang and your "woo-woo" you don't appear on stage WHILE your props is being Setting up..... just my 2 cents |

ROMY, I meant , the props are already set up on stage before I go on stage .
I think you misunderstood my words . My stage is already set up before hand but thanks for the advice.=) Well , that is exactly what I do . I introduce briefly what I do first before going into a routine , but I've seen people going into a routine straight away to get the audience's attention THEN explain what they do ... and frankly , I think the way they did it played quite well .
