Ok, even the mentalists realize that LUNA is wayyyyyyyyyyy more than mentalism - this is another top notch effect from OUTLAW... which gets better and better in terms of going darker and darker... (Roth, no way you can talk us out of believing YOU ARE ONE OF US.....wooooooo..."It was Todd I tells ya"...nope. You got a theme going....) This is yet another innovation evolution of OUTLAW products (from genius Roth) as it really combines some of the early work from the Homicide series (Roth again) with the recent advances that began with Reflections (Becker), advanced further from Bill Cushman (Witches Almanac, that freaked out many in a good way (and aside: the CARNIE tarot, advertised in PEnny should be advertised in SPOOKY IMHO..... as soon as I get that... I will be using them 8 days a week)).... ok...to now Luna...Dr. Todd and Roth advanced the techniques again: where the clever ploys from the previous two masterworks have had some mods from the early books so that it appears a person can just think of a random room in a ward from an old book from Colny Hatch sanitarium (over 500 enteries and other additional goodies)... and somehow, the mystery performer knows everything about the person chosen without seeming to ask anything -and can reveal the info in any way.... LIKE FROM A SEANCE FROM HELL. How one will do this lightly... I dunno... I'm sure there will be some... and when we find out who does.... WE'LL LOCK THEM UP IN THE PLACE LONG ENOUGH TO UNDERSTAND HOW TO PRESENT THIS WITH HONOUR AND DIGNITY TO THE DARK... really... Actually, I was really worried as a psychiatrist I wouldn't be able to use this as it would be full of stigmatic things.... but the good thing is that the material in the book is fairly accurate and allows one to really talk about psychiatry and its social situation back in the 1930s... not to knock it but to understand how people were treated...and I'm sure in 50 years people will look back at all of us and think how barbaric we all are. I actually plan to work up a routine for some psychiatry residents - one of the things I actually do with students of all sorts is reflection work to allow them to tap into stigmas, biases, hidden curricula issues and the like... this dark book is great for just opening the door even without the routine/mentalism... but since I love to do sims of psychosis.... hooo boy. Todd and Rick - bravo! I don't know how Outlaw keeps getting better... but I'm almost scared to see whatever comes next... Oh, also, the book looks authentic, aged, a bit smelly (in an authentic way)... and customizable... and OUTLAW supports it like usual on its website. I'll be back when I get the CARNIE tarot... by the way, you all know about the WITCHES ALMANAC I hope... if not... go see my post on that... One last thing... although I usually use OUTLAW books of this nature for more formal presentations or dark parlour, after meal or other more atmospheric places... the books are small enough to keep in a sports jacket... I carried Witches Almanac around for a while as it was too wild not to use... now I got LUNA... Also interesting to watch for some presentation inspirations: SESSION 9 Ok - I'm off to play with this some more... Dr S

Sounds great. I shall dig into LUNA by the light of the next full moon.

OutLaw effects reminds me of shopping at the Magickal Childe, Greenwich Village, in the 70's. There was the fun possibility that what you purchased really had powers.
Luna is a pure work of dark mystical art. That girl is never ever getting out of there. |

Here's my thought on Luna -- I discuss it on private forum(s) at Outlaw because I do not want my local competition to know about it. It is to good, to right for my character, and too dark for them -- particularly since most of them are comedians, first.
There is much more to Luna than an average magician would care to discover -- and some real life fears and concerns of the audience to be touched with care and skill. The "technical" side of Luna is easy -- the emotional side is powerful and the performance potential is not something I want my "competitors" to have. That's why I am not discussing it broadly in public forums.

Chmara is correct. Just familiarizing yourself with the book is a very disturbing and emotional experience. This is not for every magician or for every audience.

I am sure this is exactly what I need for my Haunted Illusion act; however I am just waiting for my copy to be delivered.
If it's as good as people say it is I am somewhat reluctant to speak of it around my competition as well, since this may be quite an effect. On the safe side, most of the acts I see are comedy routines, so that alone may make this effect unique. |

Ok, Dr Spektor, you make me curious. I'm a fan of nicely made props so I ordered the English trilogy today.

Because I became curious about Colney Hatch, I looked it up. Apparently now, it's a luxury set of apartments: http://www.princessparkmanor.net. I wonder if the residents know of its darker past

Frankly, I find the WA to be the best, closely followed by "Whitechapel". Homicide, this and Reflections have there place, but unfortunately not in my presentations. (They're too similar in style & method, hence you have to make a choice for one or maybe two - the others become superfluous or luxuries). (BTW if anyone wants a bargain on Homicide or Reflections, PM me). WA all the way!

I love Witches Almanac - but in my line of work, you can see how I would use Luna to talk about the history of psychiatry and also do a simulation of psychosis ... followed by.. "imagine now having to have the only treatment be a place like Colney Hatch?"
Witches Almanac I love more as a general (?!??) bizarre magic item... Luna is excellent but as many have stated - it is pretty strong powerful stuff that needs even more context thinking of who how and when to perform it for.... Luna is going into a formal seance/spooky presentation while WA works as an impromptu and informal as well as formal presentations... plus the pics in it are cool and you can use Carny Cards BTW, Whitechapel is good to use with Luna too ... supposdely an inmate of Colney Hatch might have been...
