I'm wanting to get gloves to dove and the only one I've seen is Tony Clarks....looking through websites I also found Shimada's Gloves to dove...can anyone give me the pros and cons on these effects, I was also thinking about just d***ing the gloves on my table after making the dove appear...

I use Tony Clark's Gloves to Dove at the start of my act. It is an awesome effect and it is actually gloves to a streamer which you reel in and a dove comes out the steamer.
It's quite easy to do, but unless you have Tony's DVDs, it doesn't actually teach you how to produce the dove and he gives a really cool method to do so. All the best, Ed |

Junior, the standard gloves to dove is a sleeve toss. You remove the gloves, toss and change the gloves to a dove and it requires tails.
Tony Clark's version is as mentioned above, a gloves to streamer and then a dove production. Shimada uses the gloves as a silk. In other words, he removes the gloves produces the dove from them. Gen Grant does a ribbons to dove which is basically the same as Tony Clark's. You toss out the ribbons, gather them up and produce the dove. Neither Tony's nor Gen's require tails. Tony's and Gen's require less skill than Shimada's method. Andy Amyx does a pretty version where he removes the gloves, tosses them up and over from one hand to another and then toss out the dove. At least I seem to remember him doing that way on his video. I haven't watched it in awhile and my memory isn't as good as it used to be. If I'm wrong, Andy, I apologise. Of course there's always the gloves to dove tray. Remove the gloves, toss them on the tray and they instantly change to a dove but I think that effect is in a different class than what you are looking for.

There is also a gloves to dove where you remove your gloves one at a time and a dove appears between your hands. It is pretty much self working. There is no tossing or streamers involved. Is this the Shimada method you mention Dave?
It is a really nice, straight forward effect who ever did it first. I have done it with both doves and budgies. Rob |

Rob, yes this is the way I saw Shimada do the effect but I didn't think it was self contained. I had my own idea of how.

Dave, the one with tails sounds like what Dan Sperry show's in his new dvd...instead of gloves he uses a ball... The self contained shimada version really interesting...tony's looks nice but I don't think I'd feel comfortable performing it as stand-up/closeup...Jasanchez I pm'ed ya.

I bought the effect in black during the late 1980's from Morrissey Magic in Toronto. At first I used it to make a budgie appear.
The original eventually fell apart through time and use. Pat created a new one for me in white and I use it for a dove production. It did require a slight costume alteration to produce the larger bird. It is extremely easy to do. I didn't realize (or remember ) that it was a Shimada bit. |
