I am searching for a few companies that do custom printing silk projects. I know about Tim Sonefelt but would like a couple other options. I would appreciate knowing if you've had any personal experience with these companies as well, and if you were satisfied with their services.
Thanks!

I also have some silk projects that I would like to have done. Ken, if you hear anything, please let me know.
Thanks Rob |

I believe that Richard Hughes also does custom work.
Tim Sonefelt does some wonderful work (Computer graphic driven), just be aware that the silks will not compact as well as normal silks as he uses a black surger hem.
Be remembered for performing what looks like MAGIC, not skill.

Tim Sonefelt's silks are not very large either. For example, I don't believe he can do 36" silks.
Mr. Hughes does custom, hand painted, silks. He is very expensive. Richard can also work on fairly large projects that Tim cannot. Bob Sanders usually recommends' getting an embroidery hoop and a sharpie and doing it yourself.

As for the expensive of my silks, yes they are. But you have figure in the cost of dyes, silk and time. Also realize that if you lose concentrattion for one brief moment, you ruin the silk.
Bob' method of a Sharpie can work but I will promise you ruin a silk or two perfecting it. The cheapest way to get silks printed is go out of the country. Buy 10,000 ot them and then figure out what to do with the other 9, 995 of them. I would assume that you would want five backups. Richard

David,
I don't think anyone has to apologize for doing business with Tim. I like his printing. Prompt delivery is a given. Class never goes out of style. (I want one of his backdrops!) Back to a post by Richard, Lucy has done loads of Sharpie Pen art silks for me. In all these years, I've seen only one reject! It was a Christian Fish made by tracing the edge of large bowl (actually our Pop Corn bowl). The bowl got bumped! Now I have seen some wrecks using an airbrush but those were artists' errors (and not Lucy's). In the right hands or with a stencil, airbrush works fine. Besides, I'm the magicians' silk importer I want you to use millions of them! Bob Sanders Magic By Sander PS --- I will warn you that off-brands (not real Sharpie Pens) use a very "dusty" pigment that can cause problems even in storage. |

Hi folks,
just to clear up a little of the confusion about our silks (and thanks to Bob and others who answered some of the concerns). Our silks do have a black surged him, which actually has some benefits. The hem really has nothing to do with the compression factor. What makes our silks take up more space in a load compartment is the weight of the silk. Our silks are 8 momme where as most 'magic' silks are just 5. This means you're getting a very high quality/grade of silk which will last a VERY long time. This heavier weight is also used by some other magic silk suppliers (P&A & some others). As for the size, we can do silks up to 42" square with no seams. Also we can do custom streamers and sizes that aren't square. So there are lots of options for rectangular shapes and sizes. Richard (Hughes) does beautiful custom work by hand. His silks are good quality as well. Comparing Richard's work to mine is not really something you can do - two totally different styles - that's all. It's a matter of personal preference. Richard does hand dyed custom work (in the tradition of Rosie Jepson, etc.) which is great. Ours is digital driven. It's apples to oranges. It's just a matter of which you prefer. I've seen some pretty good sharpie work on silks too. With all the different sharpie colors available now, a decent artist (or if you can trace!) could make a silk that would get you by in a pinch from stage. Remember, it's not something you're going to hang on the wall for people to look at for a long period of time. If you're going to go the do it yourself way, Bob has plenty of blank silks for you . . . literally millions of them! best, Tim Sonefelt |

Thank you gentlemen. I now have 2 companies that do this type of work and both with good reviews, and as a bonus a do-it-yourself method! What ever happened to Mark Trimble?
