Hey guys,
A buddy and I are going to do some magic on the street of downtown, but I was wondering if you guys know of any good 2 person magic? I figured we could go together and just go back and forth with different people. Any opinions? Thanks Keith |

I was thinking about doing a two-person magic show at my farmers market.

I think it's best to have your assistance. You should do tricks of switching, changing places... Ex: CARD THRU WINDOW, MONEY inside the drawer of a Bar, CARD in bottle...
Hope this helps Bone.

Working with a buddy has many advantages and some disadvantages. That is how I work. My buddy and I do our shows together.
The disadvantage is that you have to split the take. You also lose half of the creative decision making. One advantage is you are not alone up there in front of all those people, that in itself makes it easier (security in numbers). Another is smoother routining. We alternate effects during the routine. By having another performer there, you can move from effect to effect with easy segways. And while one person is performing, the other can be getting ready to jump in when the effect is finished. Another advantage is the non-perfomer can act as misdirection. A comment or joke by the non-performer during a critical slieght might come in handy. Another advantage is the other person can act as an assistant for the performer. Unfortunately my wife won't let me have a beautiful, curvy assistant in a skimpy outfit, so having another magician available to help move things and take things is the next best thing. Another advantage is the "everyman effect." The non-performer during an effect can set up straight lines or be the comedy relief in back and forth banter. He can act as the everyman and say what the audience is thinking. This cuts down on heckling from the audience, as you are already being heckled by your partner, but in a controlled enviornment with scripted come-backs. Just some thoughts. Brady |

I call this "bad mentalist & the good mentalist"
If you are interested a GREAT GREAT trick to do is use an "Invisible Deck setup" ie: if you call out Queen of Spades, your buddy knows it was the ace of hearts. Classic force whatever card you want to the spectator and have your buddy stand with his back to both of you. When you complete the force say "ok uhh, think of your your card, it's it's uhh the SEVEN of CLUBS!" The spectator says, "Uhh, no" Then you get the good mentalist to "help you out" He then says, "no the card you are thinking of is the six of diamonds." Great great way to use the Invisible Deck formula. |

Using any forcing method obviates the need for a secret communication gimmick. Just agree beforehand which cards will be forced. If you are uncomfortable with the classic force then just use a foolproof method.
On the other hand you could use this ID formula effectively with any method where one performer can glimpse the spectator's card or secretly attain the spectator's randomly thought of card. |

There is a absolutely killer two person card code in Jinx, issue 7, called "A Practical Card Code." It is simple, natural and a real fooler. The mindreader can be blindfolded during the presentation (with a real blindfold.
