I am actually glad to see that Jeff is releasing this as an individual item.
After reading some of his work it is easy to see how his experience as a mentalist shines through skillfully. Looking forward to seeing the finale product. Warmly Scar |

This does sound good. As the thread hints I am reminded of a Darren Brown effect effect where Darren uses photos of his 'friends' and the spectator separates these photos into two piles depending upon their intuition as to how they feel they might get on with the person in the photo. Then Darren reveals that all the photos in one pile have backs relating to 'alive' people and the other pile to 'dead' people. I think that was approach if I remember rightly. The Lebanon Circle also have an effect out in this genre relating to Jack The Ripper's victims with blood marking the backs.
The 'Split Reality' presentation seems to promise to be more fluid and subtle with respect to the pyschological side of the presentation. Good luck with the release Jay. |

Actually it's on Outlaw now. There is a nice pre-order price at 30% off good for a few days!
Outlaw hosts all e-books and the proceeds go directly to the creator. |

Thank you Rick!
Glad to be a part of the OUTLAW family! :) The effect will play for either close-up or stage. It was created for the stage and adapted to close-up. The manuscript contains both versions of the effect. :) Thanks for all the interest and support from the community once again! Jay

I forgot to mention this earlier...
I don't want to say who so as to spoil the suprise... But suffice it to say that one of mentalisms biggest thinkers and most innovative minds has given me permission to include their handling of the effect... :) Presale ends on the 30th of April, ebooks will be sent out on that day. After the presale is over the price goes up to $35 US. J

If "mentalisms biggest thinkers" is who I think it is then I will be very excited to see his take on this effect.

This sure sounds like Lebanon Circle's "From Hell" effect in terms of props, method, and final result.
You couldn't do them both at the same gig as I read your description of the effect. |

Id say there is many effects you couldn't do at the same gig.
I am not at all familiar with "from hell". What is it? |

It's a stack of photographs that are separated by the spec based on their "feelings" about each photograph, when the two stacks are examined at the end of the effect, it's found that each stack of photos has been piled into two unique piles based on differences which are identified on the back of each photograph.

I don't have "from hell", but I'm sure this is different...I would guess "from hell" has gimmicked photos...this does not...at this point you start, middle, & end clean...and as I've said before, you could leave the props with your audience...I doubt "from hell" has this capability...plus those "from hell" pics look expensive...
But like I said, I do not have "from hell"... Nathan

The photographs are COMPLETELY ungimmicked in "From Hell", and can be examined in great detail by the spec, as there's NOTHING to see or find.
You are NEVER dirty in "From Hell" as it's a completely self-working effect, based on an existing and well known card magic principle. You ring nothing in, and you ring nothing out.......you're clean throughout the effect, using ungimmicked photos, you have the spec put the photos into two piles based on their "feelings" for the photo they're looking at the face of, and then showing the spec the back of the photo to confirm their ability to determine (thorough their looking at the faces of the photos) that they are in two distinct piles based on information that is printed on the back of the photo. As mentioned above, "Split Reality" sounds identical to "From Hell" in its use of props, method, and effect or end result. |

For clarity then, are you saying that you researched "From Hell" prior to releasing "Split Reality", and that "Split Reality" is essentially the same trick as "From Hell" but with a different presentation?

Lebanon Circle credits Derren Brown as inspiration for the "From Hell" I think as well...
Being the bizarro fellow I am, I have a few sets of FROM HELL and the main effect is ungimmicked cards... the only gimmick is for an add-on effect for a haunted deck bit using ye olde PK tech however... the basic effect is being able to divide things up into two piles perfectly... as all of these effects also give a nod to Mr. PC (and I'm not talking policial correct... I'm talking OOOOUUUUTTT OFFFF THIIISSSSS....********)

The trick principle from Hell is "out of this world", so there is no reason to gimmick the cards in that way that you can´t give them to a spectator.
There are many different ideas to present OOTW but the basics are always the same. You have some cards (the more the better it is)the spectator takes every card after card and builds 2 piles. After that the cards are turned over and the spectator has to noticed that he/she arrenged the cards perfectly into two piles with the same backs (red/black, dead/alive, clever/stupid or whatever). This effect is a classic close up effect where you normally need a table or something where you put the cards on. I think it should be possible (for jay and nathan) to know if the basic effect is OOTW or not. So my question is: Is it another version of OOTW or not?
