Looks like Fun Inc is putting out an expanded shell dvd and comes with a shell. And Troy Hooser is teaching. Sounds great.

Looks like a fun DVD. Coin magic is both fun and practical.

I am a bit curious about the precision shell that is provided.

For the asking price, I guess you can't expect too much, but it would be nice if it was something you could actually use.

Could this be the one they use?

That is indeed the shell that's included. They are manufactured by Fun Inc, which is where Nathan gets them.

I got this today. The DVD is good, but be VERY careful with the shell. The first coin I put it on got STUCK and I can't get it out. I have NEVER had a coin get stuck in an"expanded" shell.

Any suggestions on how to get the coin out of the shell.

Thanks

Try dipping the shelled coin in hot water and then remove it to place the base of the coin (that's not shelled) on a piece of ice. And hopefully the shell expands enough to come out.

Just a disclaimer though, this is purely a theoritical suggestion and I do not know if it'll deform the shell or work.

I like how the ad says it comes with a $25 shell, but the one John Sturk said is one for $15 or two for $20. Hmmm.

I just saw the DVD advertised with the shell.
Is this something a beginner can learn easily?

The shell that comes with the dvd sucks, mine too got stuck, I used my bang ring from scotch and soda to get it out.

Great dvd though.

The shell that comes with this DVD is absolute garbage. Put a half in and still can't get it out. Are these REALLY the ones Nathan Kranzo sells? Before I heard of this DVD, I was going to get two from Nathan. But if it's the same ones... ugh. No way.

I'll try my S&S bang ring. If that doesn't work, it's ballpeen hammer time.

Guess I should have just bought a Johnson Hopping Halves set, I heard the shells that are included in the set are rather good. Can anyone confirm?

Roy Kuepper has a very nice Half shell for the money. I would buy from him unless you got >$100 for the "name brand" guys.

From Nathan Kranzo's website

Fitting Tip

These shells are expanded BUT they are met to fit the coin snug unlike most UNIVERSAL shells that fit loose. This is a good thing. So….you may encounter a half dollar that fits too tight. I recommend going to the local bank and picking up a few “well warn” halves. that's what I did and they all fit perfect. If you find your shell fits too snug and you don’t have any other coins….two minutes with a nail file around the edge of the coin will solve your problem!

Got the shell and coin separated after way too much effort, details of which can be found here:

Now that I have a shell and a set of coins that fit it, I'm tempted to upgrade my opinion. I'll go from "absolute garbage" to "crap," mainly because it was "free."
